Chapter Eight

I knocked on the door at an amazingly fast speed considering how loudly it ended up being and I kept knocking like that until the door opened. Kyra was standing there with flower on her face and an apron on. Her black hair was pulled up into a pony tail, but still looked pretty crazy.

"Eve?" She asked with a very surprised expression. Her voice kind of squeaked when she said it too. She probably really didn't expect me to find her here, but I guessed right. She was at her boyfriends house.

I know her so well.

That and I went to her parents house and they said she was here.

"What are you doing here?" She asked in a hushed tone. I still haven't met her boyfriend yet. He's 19, she is almost 18. But they've been dating since she was 14 and he was 16 so its fine.

"I feel like I want to punch something but also I want to crawl up into a ball and cry for the rest of my life." I paused so she could soak up what I had said, then I continued. "That and I really think my mom is on crack."

She stepped outside and slowly closed the door behind her. "What are you talking about?"

The lump that had formed in my throat at her parents house and after talking my mom, came back to haut me and it was almost like I couldn't tell her what I had learned. I swallowed hard and cleared my throat before telling her.

"My dad, isn't... wasn't, my real dad."

"What!" She blurted out pretty loudly then looked around so see if her boyfriend had heard her. He hadn't, so she looked back at me with wide eyes and whispered, "what do you mean?"

I shrugged and sat down on the step because I felt as if though I would cry any second. "The man that raised me, wasn't biologically related to me and no one felt the need to tell me."

She sat down beside me and wrapped her arm around my shoulders, "Eve, you are going to be fine."

"That's not even the worst part though," I admitted and felt a tear run down my face so I wiped it off. "My mom is crazy. Said he was from a different planet and knew magic. Like basically an other worldly wizard."

Kyra looked at me questioningly. "Is your mom just joking? Because that second part sounds super crazy. She could be just crazy about the whole thing..."

I put my face into my hands with a sigh of defeat. "No, she showed me pictures with dates and even their marriage licence is dated at least a year after my birthday. Also my birth records have my real dads name on them."

She was quiet for a minute then leaned her head on my shoulder. She wasn't good at the advice and support front but she was good at listening to everything you had to say. "Well, where is your dad now?"

I groaned and looked up at her, "she doesn't know. He said that he needed to finish some business then never came back. She found out she was having me a couple weeks later and thats when Rae's dad, my moms best friend at the time, stepped in and helped her out. They just happened to fall in love in the process or whatever."

"So why didn't she tell you before now?"

That was the question I had wanted to know the answer to as well.

"Because I had just started calling him dad when I learned to talk, and my mom said she wanted to keep the magic thing a secret. So she just said to him that I was his daughter because my real dad wasn't going to be there for me. And he went along with it!"

I was really frustrated and full on crying now.

Kyra was really not the person to go to when I'm in this kind of mood. She knew all my secrets and was good at keeping them but I always tell her the bad ones once I've got my emotions in check. So she just patted my back until her boyfriend appeared in the doorway behind us.

"Need some ice cream?"

Kyra jumped up and looked at him with lots of worry on her face. But he was smiling softly. He looked just as nice as she describes him to me all the time. "I have no idea what's going on but the best cure is always ice cream." He said then smiled at the two of us individually.

Kyra was practically shaking with nervousness, "Marshal, this is Eve. My best friend and cheer captain. Eve this is my boyfriend, Marshal."

"Nice to meet you finally," he said with a smile then turned to walk back into the house. "Come in for ice cream and good movies!"

Kyra rolled her eyes then looked at me, "he's crazy about his movies. Don't touch them or you may loose a finger."

I laughed a little and she smiled. She was always pretty good with distracting me though. Rather than helping me deal with the problem, she helps me forget it. I guess her boyfriend is good at it too.
