DemiAs the plane descended, back in L.A. I looked out the window, a smile on my face as I remembered the conversation I had that morning with Lyric. She had called to skype with me as soon as she got up & with the time difference I had been up for a while already.
"Morning, sweetie." I said when I saw it was Lyric calling.
She smiled into the phone & that sight never got old. "Morning, Mom."
"You're up early."
"Batman woke me up & then I figured since I was up..." She smiled as she picked Batman up & held him on her lap.
"It's both my babies." I said, biting my lip.
Lyric held Batman up to her face & made his paw wave at me. He let out a little yelp when he saw my face on the computer screen & Lyric & I both laughed. "He probably wants to save you since he thinks you're stuck in there."
"Probably. You gonna go back to sleep?"
"No. I fell asleep early last night, so I'm good."
"Well, I'm glad you called me. I like having company while I get ready." I winked at her.
"Glad I can keep ya company. I wanted to tell you something, too, which is one reason I called."
"Oh yea? What's that?" I propped my phone up against my bag & sat on the couch to give her my full attention.
"Well, I've been doing a lot of thinking since I've been alone with dad. I was really scared & nervous about starting junior high in the fall & becoming a big sister, it's all I've been able to think about. It's a lot of adjusting, but hanging with dad made me see that if dad can do a complete 180 & want a baby now when he didn't before, then I can, too, about being a big sister."
I chuckled, mostly from nerves & surprise. "You were having doubts again?"
"A few once in awhile, but I'm good now. I was just letting my fears consume me. I adjusted to having diabetes & that was scary. I adjusted to losing my parents & that was the scariest thing I'd ever dealt with. So, this should be easy. And Dad helped me figure that out this week. He kept talking about stuff we could do with the baby & how he was scared at first, but now he's excited. It made me realize that I felt the same way & it was perfectly normal. I shouldn't feel bad because I was afraid & didn't think I wanted a sibling."
"You're way too smart sometimes. I don't know where you get it." I chuckled.
"You & Dad are smart." She rolled her eyes & I laughed, sarcastically.
"Speaking of your dad, is he up?"
"He wasn't when I took Batman outside. It's not even 7, though, so he's probably sleeping in today & will be up by 8." Lyric smirked, since we both knew sleeping in, for Nick, meant being up by 8. Usually he was up even earlier, since he was just so used to it. Nick hardly ever slept anyway, but when he did, it wasn't for very long periods of time. Five hours was average for him.
"You doing anything today?" I asked as I combed my hair.
"Maybe go to Nicole's. Give Dad some alone time since it was just me & him the last few days. He's probably sick of me."
"No, he isn't." I clicked my tongue then I laughed when I saw she was smiling, so I knew she didn't mean what she had just said.
"We had fun together, actually. Made me wish that this baby is a boy."
