Lyric

One of the nice men, on the coast guard boat, put a blanket around me & I didn't realize I was crying until one of the guys handed me a towel to wipe my cheeks. Another man was a paramedic so he checked me over, including my sugar & everything was fine, thank goodness. I heard Dad crying out for Mom not to die on him, so I looked over the railing down to where Uncle Joe was helping my dad give Mom CPR. I had learned about it in a movie that Chloe had shown me when we were learning first aid for my health lessons. I stood up, trying to keep the blanket around me as I stood against the railing, watching the scene below, on the deck of the boat. Dad was crying & Uncle Joe looked so worried & scared, that I got worried & scared. Mom wasn't waking up & hearing Dad beg her not to leave him, was making me cry.

The boat was moving, getting us to the shore, since there was a storm coming. It wasn't raining but the dark sky let us know that the rain was probably on its way. I wanted the boat to go faster because I was afraid that my mom was going to die, if she didn't get to a hospital soon. Dad wasn't reviving her & now Uncle Joe looked defeated. I saw Dad push Uncle Joe away, so he could push on Mom's chest. I was crying pretty hard, trying not to be too loud with my sobs. I let out a sob, though, when I saw Dad practically pound on Mom's chest, then let out a heartbreaking wail. I squeezed my eyes shut, because I didn't want to see this. I didn't want to see my dad sobbing, trying to bring my mom back from the dead. I didn't want to watch my mom's body laying on the deck, losing color as she passed over to the other side.

I heard coughing & what sounded like choking so I opened my eyes & saw it was my mom, responding to the CPR she had been given. My sad sobs turned into giddy sobs of joy as I stood up & started running down the steps to the deck of the boat.

"Oh thank you, God. Oh baby, you came back to me." I heard Dad say as he held Mom close to him. I fell to my knees, by my parents, as a guy from the upper deck came down & brought blankets for them. I put my arms around my mom & dad, as Dad kissed Mom's head several times. I moved so the man could put a hoodie around Dad's shoulder, then another man appeared so he could check Mom over & put a blanket around her. Dad somehow managed to have a blanket, too, that he put over both of our laps.

Dad put his arm around me & adjusted the blanket so it was covering me more, since the wind was getting stronger. He watched the man, closely, as he took care of Mom, but he held on to me, too, & once in awhile, would kiss my head. It seemed to take forever to get to the shore, where an ambulance was waiting to take Mom to the hospital. I wanted to ride with Dad in the ambulance, but I had to go with Uncle Joe & Chloe. Chloe helped me get in the car after she hugged & kissed me over & over.

Chloe drove the car, since Uncle Joe had to make phone calls & let our family know that I was found & that I was okay. I was still crying, quietly, in the backseat, looking out the window as we followed close behind the ambulance. I couldn't help but worry about my baby brother or sister, since I heard the EMT's express their concern before they put Mom into the ambulance.

"I know you're worried, Lyric, but your mom is gonna be okay. She was coherent, which is a good sign." Uncle Joe said, looking over the seat at me.

"What if the baby dies?"

"Don't say that. The baby is going to be fine." He said, trying to smile, without looking worried.

I nodded, not really believing what he said. I looked back out the window & Uncle Joe sighed, but didn't say anything else. When we got to the hospital, I nearly ran inside with Uncle Joe & Chloe close behind. We weren't allowed past the doors that led to the exam rooms, so we waited in the lobby. I was getting anxious after a while, so I started walking around the lobby, checking out the magazines or the fish tank, but that got old after awhile.
