Lyric
As I was sitting in the backseat, on the way to the hospital, I knew things were bad. I knew my mom was in a lot of pain & she was worried about the baby. I could hear it in her shaky voice & I could see it in her face. When Mom said she was bleeding, I watched Dad's face & I saw the horror in his expression when he saw Mom's hand, with blood on it. That's when the tears filled my eyes. I was scared for both my mom & my baby brother. I closed my eyes & the tears spilled down my cheeks as I prayed for God not to take them. I apologized for not wanting a new baby, before & asked Him to forgive me & I assured Him that I really wanted a little brother more than anything else. My baby brother had to be okay.
Dad pulled up to the ER & got some orderlies to help my mom get into the wheelchair. I watched my dad watching my mom & I knew he was trying not to cry. I saw his chin tremble & I saw his frantic eyes as he kept them focused on Mom, as she cried out in pain. I followed them into the hospital & I stood near the front desk as Dad explained to someone what was going on with my mom. It must have been serious, because they pushed Mom back into a room really fast. Dad couldn't go back, because I was there. I felt bad because I heard Mom's sad voice as she begged Dad to come with her & he had to stay with me.
A doctor came up to me & asked me if I was lost. I shook my head, then he introduced himself as Dr. Shaw & shook my hand. "I'm Lyric. My mom is pregnant & she was in pain & bleeding. My dad is over there, but he has to stay with me, so he couldn't go be with her." I explained & the doctor looked over me, to where my dad was standing, then walked to him. I moved closer so I could hear what the doctor said to Dad.
"Sir, your daughter can stay with one of our volunteers if you want to go back with your wife." Dr. Shaw said to Dad, his hand on Dad's shoulder.
Dad looked over at me, his forehead creased with worry. I stepped forward & managed to smile at him. "Go ahead. I'll be fine. Uncle Joe will be here soon. Mom needs you."
Dad hugged me & choked on a sob as he said, "I love you, sweetheart." He kissed the top of my head, then looked at Dr. Shaw. "Thank you. My brother should be here soon. His name is Joe Jonas."
"Okay." Dr. Shaw nodded, then Dad walked toward the door that led to the exam rooms. "Okay, Lyric, come with me." He led me to a room behind where the front desk was & walked to a young girl, dressed in pink scrubs. "Georgie, this is Lyric. Her mom & dad are back with the doctors & her uncle is on his way, so can you keep her with you, until he gets here?"
"Of course." Georgie smiled & held out her hand for me to shake. Dr. Shaw gave my shoulder a squeeze, then he left to go back to work. "Lyric, come with me. I'll take you to the lounge. Give me a second first to tell the nurse at the desk where you will be for when your uncle gets here. What's your uncle's name?"
"Joe Jonas."
Georgie's eyes got wide & her mouth opened a little. "Joe Jonas? As in the Jonas brothers?" She asked, sounding excited & I nodded, in response. "Oh my God. Nick Jonas is your dad. Holy crap, you're Demi Lovato's daughter. That's why you look familiar. I am such a fan of your parents' & your uncles. I grew up listening to them." Georgie was smiling & then she got serious. "I'm so sorry. I am not a crazy fangirl. I promise."
