Chapter 15

Nick

Tony wasn't very bright, because as soon as we got to the deck, he turned his back on me. Since I wasn't tied up or anything, I was able to put my arms around his neck. We struggled for a moment & he fired the gun, randomly, over his head, the bullet not coming anywhere near me. While he lost consciousness, I heard Demi calling out my name & she sounded so distressed, it broke my heart. I couldn't say anything, though, because I was in the middle of putting a man to sleep. I held my arms around him until he collapsed & with a thud, he hit the floor. I got the gun from him & slipped it into the waistband of my jeans on my back, like I'd seen people do in the movies. I moved Tony to the edge of the boat, then I heard voices & scrambling footsteps.

I hid against the wall of the yacht & heard Angel & Roger come up on the deck, calling out for Tony. They went around the other side of the boat, so I took that opportunity to push Tony's body overboard & it made a loud splash. I knew Roger & Angel heard it because I heard their footsteps change direction. Just as they got close, I grabbed the gun from my back & stepped into their view. I didn't say a word, I just pointed the gun at them. Their wide eyes reminded me of an innocent deer about to be shot by a hunter. "Tony had to take a nap... with the fishes...." I said, in a low, sinister voice, channeling my actor side. I didn't know if he was dead or just unconscious, but these two, standing I front of me, didn't know that.

Just as Angel went to speak, the yacht hit something & we all went flying. I fell back, but managed to keep the gun in my hand. When I sat up, I saw Roger & Angel scrambling to stand up, then they leapt over the side of the boat. I ran to the railing just in time to see Roger & Angel in a little motorboat. As they shoved off, the yacht tipped, putting it at a severe angle & I slid off of it into the water between the boat & the rocks that it hit. When I got up on a rock, the waves started moving the yacht & it righted itself, then it started floating away. I jumped in the water, glancing to see the motorboat was way off in the distance. I grabbed on to the side of the yacht, holding onto a rope. As the large boat floated out into the ocean again, I tried to get back up on the yacht. My feet were slipping on the wet side of it, so I was having difficulty. My hands were slipping down the rope & eventually I was in the water again. I kept myself afloat, catching my breath & looking around to see if there was anyone close enough that might hear me yell.

There was a storm brewing by the look of the sky, which explained why there weren't a lot of people out on the water. I swam toward the boat & looked for something to grab onto again. As I swam around to the other side of the boat, I saw a tiny one or two person life raft & I grabbed onto the rope that held it to the yacht. As I climbed up the side, I realized I didn't have a long way to go & that's when I realized the boat was sinking, fast. I stretched to look at the side that hit the rocks & saw a huge hole in the side of the yacht, water pouring into it, forcing it under water, quickly. I had to move fast to get Demi & Lyric out of this boat.

I scrambled to the top of the yacht, but when I got there, the boat was tipping again & I started to slide. I grabbed on to whatever I could, trying to keep from falling into the water again. As the boat leveled a little, I managed to stand up & that's when I smelled smoke. I looked around & saw there was smoke coming from under a door on the deck of the boat. "Shit." I muttered under my breath.

I made my way to the window of the area Lyric & Demi were in, when I last saw them. I knocked on it, but only once because it fell out, landing on the floor inside. I put my head in & looked around. "Demi?" I called out.

"Nick?" I heard her frantic but relieved voice. She moved so I could see she was holding her & Lyric in a spot where they were safe if the boat tipped again. "You're alive! Oh my God, I thought that guy shot you."
