"Found 'em," Sky calls.
"Where?" I ask, turning my head in vain.
"Over there," she replies, pointing a large fountain sitting on the edge of the road. Sure enough three people are standing beside it. I recognize Chloe immediately with her aggressive stance and stick straight hair. I also pick out Brent with his yellow curls. And so by process of elimination, the petit fiery red head's got to be Sharon.
"Come on." Annabeth starts walking over, gesturing for us to follow. No sneak attack plan then? ...Apparently not.
At the sound of our footsteps they turn to look at us. Before any of them can comprehend who we are, Sky tackles Chloe to the ground. "I want my spray back you b****!"
Oh my gods. Sky swore. SKY SWORE! The world is ending! The girl who I've known since preschool and has never heard say anything worse than 'stupid' has just called someone a freaking b****.
"Congrats Sky!" Ty and I both say in unison. Oh shoot, now we're starting to sound like Ty and Sky.
Annabeth just gives us a look of befuddlement and shakes her head when Ty and I give her somewhat apologetic looks. Meanwhile Sky's still on top of Chloe while Brent and Sharon are just kind of staring at us. It takes me a moment to realize that they have never seen us before. Well then...
Chloe flips Sky over with hardly a grunt and lands on top of her with one of her blades against her throat. A cry lands in my throat. She wouldn't!
Chloe starts to raise the sword. Her arm comes shrieking down blade in hand, ready to decapitate one of my best friends. "No!" I scream, forgetting all the mortals mulling about and that we definitely should have chosen a more closed off place for this battle.
But none of that matters now. Sky gonna die.
And then, just like in all the books, time slows down. I can see Chloe's wicked expression as her arm whips down. I can see the sword gleaming like a second sun in the shimmering watery light of the fountain. I can see Brent's face twist in cruel pleasure, all his features combining into a completely different person, his body shrinking slightly into a much scrawnier frame.
Then it goes back to normal and Annabeth's there. Right in the midst of it. Parrying away Chloe's blade, disarming her and knocking her out in a couple minutes. Then she moves on to Brent and Sharon. Sharon proves to be amazing. Brent just sits at his place at the fountain watching the struggle with amusement written over his face. It's at exactly this moment that I can feel something pressing into my back. I reach a hand to touch it. My quiver. My bow. I'd completely forgotten about my weapon.
I pull the bow over my head, savouring the touch of it. I hear the loud clang of metal on metal and quickly chastise myself for not moving quicker. I draw out an arrow and hook it on the bow. I finger the string and pull it towards myself. Then, using my mouth once more as an anchor, I aim at a nice fleshy place on Brent's neck. I breathe in.
I breathe out.
I release.
Zing. The golden haired boy falls into the fountain. At his cry of pain, Sharon turns her head for a split second. This is all Annabeth needs to drive her dagger into her heart. I wince a little as the girl who've I've never seen before in my life falls to the sidewalk, lifeless. Because of me. I didn't drive the knife into her, but I might have well have. I gave Annabeth the time to do exactly that. I allowed it. Schist. I close my eyes, but open them almost immediately as a golden light flickers by my vision. It's blinding. Once it clears, I look for the source. It's the scrawny blond I saw hints of before in Brent.
"Octavian," Annabeth spits the name like venom. So this the boy responsible for Percy's almost death.
Without a word, Sky stabs him in the stomach.
I'm thinking of maybe doing one more chapter and then wrapping this story up. As you've probably noticed, it's kind of dying.
Okay, it's already pretty much dead. So one more chapter as a kind of conclusion and then this thing will be complete and so will my life! (Not really. I should probably get a social life...do you know how hard it is to get one though!?!?!?)
On a different note...Winter finally came out! I'm so happy! For all of you who have no clue what I'm talking about, Winter is the conclusion for an epic series (of course it's still not as rad as Percy Jackson, but it's a close runner up) the Lunar Chronicles.
Anywho, keep being awesome people. I wish you luck with opening the banana you are hopefully eating right now. Vote/comment.
