Sleep came easy. I had been put on the top floor of the Homestead, in a room that apparently was empty. I decided not to question why there was an available room with the amount of boys they had. As soon as I had been left alone, I collapsed onto the bed, taking a long breath as my body began to relax. It wasn't long after my head hit the pillow that I was overcome by exhaustion from my day's events that I drifted off into a much needed slumber.

My dreams didn't make sense. I was filled with panic and I struggled against some unknown force holding me down. I tried to look around, but everything around me was distorted, and on top of that bright lights made it impossible to distinguish anything around me. Indiscernible whispers were all around me, and even though I couldn't pick up a single word, I knew they were talking about me. Then I felt a hand on my shoulder, their form blocked some of the light, but their face was still blurry and distorted. "We're counting on you now, Nicole." Even though they were close to me, their voice seemed so far. A sharp pain in my arm made me gasp and I tried to turn my head but I couldn't move. As everything around me started to go black, again the person spoke. "Be the hope they need."

I shot up in bed my breathing heavy as I looked around the darkened room. "Just a dream." I softly whispered to myself, covering my face with my hands. Pulling my hands away, I realized that tears were streaming from my eyes, I just couldn't shake how real the whole thing felt.

Swinging my legs over the side of the bed, I quickly put my shoes on. I didn't think I could sleep any longer.

The first morning light was beginning to break out over the Glade as I stepped out of the Homestead. I took a deep breath of the early air, already feeling better, although my heart still thumped loudly in my chest.

As I began walking, my mind replayed my dream over and over. None of it made sense. I kept thinking about it, trying to examine each detail to see if I could pick up more, but everything in the dream was so blurry that I couldn't make out anything discernible.

Stopping in my tracks I looked around realizing I had ended relatively deep in the forest. I groaned squeezing my eyes shut and took a slow breath.

The sound of crunching leaves made me snap my head around, as I became acutely aware that I wasn't alone any longer. "You know it's rude to spy on people." I said, my voice carrying through the trees to my unknown stalker. "I wouldn't need to watch you if your weren't going to places you didn't need to be in the first place." I turned my head to the right to see Gally walking towards me. I silently groaned watching him closely as he got closer.

"Sorry, I didn't see a sign that said "no girls allowed." Must have missed it." Gally sneered, now right in front of me. "You shouldn't be here. I don't know what the Creators are using you for, but I won't let you get away with it!" I almost laughed. "My face doesn't show it, but I'm terrified I swear!" Sarcasm was laced in my words, which only made Gally's glare harsher.

"Well I'd love to keep doing this staring contest, but I'm going to go. You know, I've got some plotting against gladers to do, and you should probably get back to banging your head on trees. I mean that is what you've been doing right? It would explain the face, and lack of brain cells." I smirked, and without waiting for a response turned and started my walk out of the forest. "This is fun. Let's not do it again." I called over my shoulder.
