Stepping out of the darkness that the forest created I sighed. I kept wishing this was all just a bad dream, but the reality was the fact that I'm here now, and I have to make the most of it.

A quick look around showed that the sun was slowly beginning to shine on the Glade, which meant soon the Gladers would be starting their days. Although, there were a few boys up standing at each of the four closed maze doors. Immediately, I realized they were the runners, which meant, just the people I needed to talk to.

"Hey!" I called running over to Minho as he stretched getting ready for the doors to open. He looked up eyebrows raised before he stood at full height as he waited for me to close the gap. "Ah the girl shank." He crossed his arms his eyes scanning me up and down. "You sticks' words are so weird..." He cocked an eyebrow a slight smirk pulling at the corner of his mouth. "And 'sticks' isn't weird?" I rolled my eyes. "We'll just agree that we both have weird words."

"So, there was a reason you came to talk to me?" He asked placing his hands on his hips looking down at me. "Well, you're the keeper of the runners right?" He nodded in response continuing to raise his eyebrows urging me to continue. "Well, I want to be a runner." I placed my hands on my hips mocking his stance. He chuckled running a hand through his hair. "Oh yeah? And why should I make you a runner? All the others have to wait months before they can be a runner." I rolled my eyes. "Because, I was a runner back in my Glade. And not just any runner, the best there is. I could keep your pace, if not better any day." He tilted his head slightly. "Really? And how am I supposed to know you aren't just making all this up?" I breathed a laugh and took a step forward, looking him in the eye. "Then let me prove it."

The sound of stone grinding against stone broke through the silence, but neither of us spoke as I waited for Minho's response. Finally he clicked his tongue and nodded his head. "Alright then, starting tomorrow, we'll find out what you're made of." With that said, Minho turned and sprinted into the maze.

As I walked through the Glade, each boy that I passed would stare at me as if I was some foreign species. Which, I guess after being with only guys for 2 years it, I basically am, but after a while it was just getting annoying.

Walking into the Homestead, my eyes immediately landed on Newt and Alby talking not for away in hushed tones. Newt, who had glanced over as the door opened, did a double take when he realized it was me. "We thought you were still sleeping upstairs." He commented as I walked over to them. "Oh? No I got up early this morning." I shrugged casually, but Alby narrowed his eyes at my words. "And why is that?" I inwardly groaned, Gally just had to get the idea that I was a Creator spy in their heads. "I had a nightmare. Didn't think I could sleep, so I took a walk. But oh? Am I not allowed to do that?" I asked sarcastically, looking as innocent as possible. Finally he grumbled something that I didn't bother trying to understand. Newt cleared his throat and gave Alby a look, who just rolled his eyes. "Well Nikki, you hungry? I'm sure Frypan and the crew have breakfast cooked up by now."

"I'm getting really tired of this..." I mumbled watching two boys not far away whispering between each other as they looked at me. Newt looked up from eating with raised eyebrows, his expression questioning, urging me to explain. I pointed out different boys in our vicinity that were trying to sneak glances at me, and others who were just outright staring. "They're acting like they're never seen a girl before!" I added, annoyance creeping into my voice. Newt followed my gaze as he began to speak. "Well, they can't exactly remember when was the last time they actually saw a female." I rolled my eyes before giving him a look. "Well I don't remember the last time I saw a male but I'm acting pretty calm about it."
Newt rolled his eyes as he crumbled up his trash. "Eh, give it a couple days and they'll be over it. Well at least more used to it." I groaned slightly. "Yeah well, they better be."
