Panicked Gladers rushed around their arms full of supplies preparing for the long night that they all had to endure. The maze doors stood wide open, even though each of their watches showed that it was much past the time when they should have closed. Shrieks from grievers prowling from deep inside it's cavernous walls, only fueled the boys' fear of oncoming death.

Newt stood in the middle of the Glade tensely directing boys in various tasks of preparation. He had no idea where Alby was, but even if he did, he was still much too affected from the Changing that he was no help in this process.

He missed Jeff call his name the first time as the med-jack ran to him, but the urgency of the second call, grabbed his attention spinning him around from talking to a flustered builder.

"Nicole?" He asked, not even giving Jeff chance to speak. The skinny med-jack nodded hesitantly. "You told us to tell you immediately if there was any change..."
"Is she awake?" He interrupted anxiously. Jeff sighed shaking his head. "No, but I feel like she's close."

Newt didn't wait another second. "But wait what about...." The builder's voice faded as Newt hurried to the Homestead.

Clint barely looked over his shoulder as Newt and Jeff entered the room. "No change." Clint said to Jeff, but to Newt it was quite a change.

Nicole lay there, her face contorted in pain, her fists clenching the sheets of her bed, her knuckles white. She didn't move, except for her mouth, which weakly released the same phrase over and over. "Maze, code, maps."

"How long has she been like this." Newt asked not taking his eyes off of Nicole, as if waiting for her to spring up at any moment. "Only a few minutes. She just suddenly grasped the sheets and her face just changed and she started saying those words over and over." Jeff said shrugging his shoulders. "And no change since." Clint added.

"Looks like she's trying to wake up." The second in command mumbled. "Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Like she broke through some barrier of her coma and is just fighting to get out." Clint said.

Newt paused for a moment before looking back at the two. "Do you think she can hear us?" Both of their shoulders bobbed up in a shrug. "Don't know, I talk to her." Clint mumbled. Jeff looked at his friend with confusion. "Saying what?" Clint rolled his eyes. "I don't know, whatever. I just don't want her to be lonely..."

Newt leaned down looking into Nicole's pain wrought face. "Niks, I don't know if you can hear me, but I need you to wake up. You may be the only one who knows how to get out of here and we need you now more than ever.... I really need you." He closed his eyes running a frustrated hand through his hair.

"Newt."
It was barely above a whisper, but he heard it as if it was the loudest voice. His eyes shot open and even Clint and Jeff shut up and stared at Nicole's still body. Her hands no longer held the sheets for dear life, but now sat palms up. "Well I guess we know now that she can hear us..." Jeff muttered, shaking his head in disbelief.

"She's fighting to get up and she somehow managed to get that message to us..." Newt said softly, standing up to his full height. "Well do you know what she means by it?" Clint spoke up now on his feet as well. Slowly Newt shook his head. "No, but I know I have to go do something." With one last glance at his unconscious friend, he hurried out of the room.

"Minho!" The runner stopped mid-stride ,weapons jangled together from inside the large box he carried in his arms. Newt came to a halt in front of him not wasting a moment before he started speaking. "I need you to go hide all of the maps."

"Ok... What for?" He asked raising his eyebrows. As quick as he could Newt explained the situation, trying to leave nothing out and express the urgency all at once. "Got it." Minho dropped the box into Newts arms as soon as he finished his explanation. Newt nodded gratefully before Minho hurried towards the Map Room.
