"Good evening players, coaches, and all of you here at the 2015 Playoffs of the Lauren Jauregui Basketball Training Camp. Tonight, we have just seen our first game of the semi-finals and the second is about to begin. Just recently, Blackout just went up against the Green Monsters and emerged victoriously, the score 75 to 61. Up next, we have the Red Hots against the Silver Foxes in the second game of the night."
Camila blocked out the sound of the announcer and sat on the gym floor, stretching her fingers out to grab onto her sneaker.
"Who the hell? Why is there an announcer?" Dinah asked, doing her own stretches beside her.
"Lauren told me a while ago that she brings them in for dramatic effect. Makes the whole thing more real or whatever," she answered, voice slightly strained from her stretching.
"Leave it to her. She's hella dramatic all the time." Dinah shook her head and Camila took a deep breath. It had been a few days since Lauren officially broke up with her and she had just gained control over her tears. She hadn't cried all day and she wasn't about to start right before a game. Especially not the semi-finals.
They were about to go up against their camp besties, the Silver team. Part of her was really looking forward to it because of how close they were, but it would still suck to have to knock them out. She wasn't too worried about them though. Lauren also told her that coaches and recruiters from professional teams start showing up during the semi-finals so it was likely that everyone would get a call, win or lose.
"Get up hoe, we're about to huddle," BB said smacking her on the side of the head, bringing her thoughts back to the moment.
"Don't start a problem, Barbara," she said with a smirk, knowing the use of BB's full name always pissed her off.
"Don't even Mexicuba. I'm bigger than you," BB said, glaring at her. Camila laughed and playfully elbowed her so she could get a shoulder into their huddle.
"Alright guys, I know they're your friends, but it's game time. They're just another opposing team now, and they're standing in the way of you and your championship title. So WHO'S GONNA BE ON FIRE TONIGHT!?!"
"RED HOTS!" they shouted back. She had to admit, when Dinah brought up the idea of Steph leading them in a full blown out chant filled with corny puns, she was thoroughly against it. And she was the corniest person in existence. But even she had to admit that Steph's yelling was definitely getting her fired up.
"I SAID WHO'S GONNA SET THIS PLACE ON FIRE TONIGHT!?"
"RED HOTS!" they screamed even louder.
"GET OUT THERE AND HEAT IT UP! ON THREE! ONE! TWO! THREE!"
"RED HOTS!" They finished with Normani's tribal sounding 'whoop' and scattered to get into their various positions on the court. Camila tucked her jersey in, high fived all of her friends in silver uniforms, and got to her spot. She got down on one knee and took a deep breath.
"This one's for you Mami," she said quietly and stood back up. The ref stood between Taylor and Zendaya, each girl looking hard in the face in their ready stances. The ball went up, Zendaya tapped it over to Nicola, and Camila immediately ran back to get on defense. They went with their regular zone, since no one on the Silver team was really that great at outside shooting, and got ready to play their game.
It bothered Camila to no end how evenly matched they were to the Silver team. The game was already five minutes in and the score was close at 16-15, Silver Foxes in the lead. As she brought the ball up the court for their next play, she was determined to break out in the front.
"Angry birds! Angry birds!" she shouted out and she saw Normani quickly set a screen to her right. She rolled off of it and was faced with Shailene in her face. She passed it around her to Dinah, who easily put it into the basket.
