God must have been watching over us, giving us the utilities to make it to the camp with just enough gas. We exit the vehicles, met by a giant concrete wall. A stainless steel door is planted at the middle. I approach it, knocking immediately.
The door unlatches presenting two men with automatic weapons. Instantly their weapons are on me, shouting me to surrender. I hold my hands up, slowly dispatching my weapons. Luke quickly steps in.
"Whoa! Whoa! Colin sent for us! Colin Locklier!" Luke frantically speaks.
The men stand down and look over the group.
"Alright, let's go. Except you." The soldier points. "We don't allow your kind on the premises."
"No." Rabbit gasps. "She belongs with us! If it wasn't for her, none of us would be here."
"The boy is right." Grey continues. "She poses no threat to anyone."
"Sorry, compound rules." The solider speaks again.
"Go." I speak. "You'll all be safe in there."
"Sam, no."
"Rabbit, please."
"Rabbit." Grey calls.
"I'm going to get you in. I promise."
I smile watching the group step within the shelter walls. The door slams with a sickening thud as I'm left to fiend on my own. I venture into the woods, seeking shelter from the intense heat. If anything I have enough supplies to last a few days on my own and enough skill to stay alive. I set up a canopy and find some leaves to cover the forest floor. I rest my head against a log and listen to the sounds of the birds and small animals that prance about. I know I'm in for a long night so I decide to take the safety of the daylight and use it to my advantage. Sleep.
RABBIT POV
"Grey, we can't leave her out there." I urge.
"Don't you think I know that. Give me a minute to think."
"If I may add, maybe I could get Colin to convince whomever otherwise." Luke interrupts.
Grey nods, rubbing his bearded chin. "It's worth a shot. Find your friend boy, and bring him to us."
Luke takes off searching for his friend. I, on the other hand, think of the unimaginable of Sam being out there alone. Minutes later, Luke returns with a middle aged man by his side.
"Colin, this is Grey and Rabbit. They saved my life."
"No, Sam did and they are treated her like a dweller."
"Rabbit." Grey warns. "Easy." He looks go Colin who seems quite willing to help. "You see Sam is a hybrid."
"A what?" Colin asks.
"She only received half of the virus. It counter acted and gave her the abilities of a vampire but kept her human. She has a beating heart like you and I but becomes a large asset to the survival of you me and everyone else in this place. Do you think you can get her in?"
Colin looks about and nods his head. "Let me see what I can do."
A half hour later, Colin returns to us presenting a smile.
"Ok, she is permitted in but Joanie wants to meet her."
"Joanie?" Luke questions.
"Yes, she built this compound to what it is."
