The mystery man, stalks towards me as I get a better look of his face. Not an imperfection can be seen, following right up to his sandy brown hair and chocolate eyes. His attire is not of this time, mixing harshly with the 1800s yet fitting quite tight to his strong frame.I stumble to my feet, trying to make myself small and unnoticeable.
"Halt!" He calls.
Halt? I think to myself. I'm no dog.
"Excuse me?"
"Are you literally mad?" He approaches.
"What?" I'm confused by the new comer and I really just want to go back to apartment.
"Being out in the wide open, like this? Do you not think these mundanes will notice or perceive you out?"
His accent and dialect is that of proper old English and I'm starting to think Liam and I are not the only vampires around.
"No, I keep myself quite hidden." I zip. "Wait a minute. Who are you? And why I am explaining myself to you?"
He laughs. "Why yes, where are my manners. My name is Phillip, my lady and I am here to help."
"Help with what, may I ask?"
"The uprising." He blatantly speaks.
I shake my head seemingly confused.
"We made the travels West for freedom. The uprising can kiss my ass for all I care. This city is a safe haven. No mutant or vampire of Trek's can penetrate these walls."
He laughs. "Pardon my arrogance but simply because you have made to it a so called safe haven, does not doth that the uprising is therefore over. You literally have no mind as to how many of 'us' are truly out there."
"What do you mean 'us'?" I ask cautiously.
"Hybrids." He simply puts before shifting his weight. "Perhaps we could talk somewhere a little more intimate."
I look at him, scanning over his stature.
"How do I know this is not some set up?"
"Because if I desired to kill you, I would have done so."
I shrug. "I suppose that's a good enough reason."
He flashes an endearing smile before presenting the path before me. "After you."
I lead Philip back to the apartment, thankful that Liam is not there. I offer him a seat at out bland table and set off to make some tea.
"So, how long have you been a hybrid." I ask making conversation.
"Much longer than your time. Somewhere over 100 years, I lost count once I reached 100." He lightly chuckles.
"Wow. You look great for your age." I joke.
He sighs. "I often wonder what I would look of being aged and old."
"Why?" I ask bringing the pointless tea.
He shrugs. "It gets a bit old having to make home in new places every 20 years."
I gasp. "I never even thought of that."
He laughs. "You have no worry. Vampires are a bit of a norm now. Though highly not a welcomed norm."
"Well, myself and another hybrid have kept quite hidden since arriving here."
He nods. "So is it true?"
"I'm sorry?"
"That Vincent Trek has a vile of your hybrid blood."
"No." I quickly answer. "My group rescued me and brought a long every sample he took while I was there."
"Let's hope." He concerns. "Because if Trek gets the reminisce of our blood we could all be in grave danger. And I speak of danger, the limits are boundless even including extinction."
I cringe at the word, thinking of every person who is dear to me.
Abruptly the door slams, sending me immediately into a defensive mode. Philip holds up his hand, alerting me that there is no danger.
"Who the hell are you?" Liam snarls.
"Philip. I'll think we've met before, Liam."
"What?" I ask feeling a bit of anger.
"I don't know what you are talking about. I've never seen you before, nor do I know anyone named Philip." Liam mocks.
"On the contrary. You know me quite well."
"I don't fucking know you! Now get the fuck out of my apartment." Liam roars slamming his fists onto the table.
Philip stands putting his hands up in surrender.
"Liam!" I snarl. "What the hell?"
"No, no Sam. It's quite fine. I will depart. We will meet again, my lady." He says bowing slightly before heading for the door.
Liam stands with his back towards me as I hear the door close softly.
"What the hell was that?" I shout.
"Nothing, you wouldn't understand."
"Make me understand." I push.
"Sam, drop it."
"No!"
"God dammit Sam, I said drop it!" He roars.
"Why? Because you are lying to me? Hiding something? What is it, Liam? Huh? You in on something with Trek?"
"Fuck you!" He growls slamming my body into the wall. "I would never." He stresses. "Never work for that monster again."
I breath hard, watching Liam's eyes quickly fade from black. His cuspids retract as he slowly backs away, releasing my arms.
I storm away from him, marching myself into my room slamming the door behind me. I perch myself upon the window as I do often, raking my fingers through my hair, angered with frustration. In a world of living in the unknown, the last thing I need is my best friend lying and hiding things from me. I open the window and leap, descending gracefully. I hit the ground with a soft thud, bracing myself with my hands. If Liam wanted to be self absorbed and a sneak then that's his decision but I refuse to surround myself with someone I don't even know..
