LIAM POV
I wait until the day escapes me before venturing out. We were dwellers after all, just s sophisticated version. I let Sam go, muddling in her room probably thinking of a way to kill me. Even if I did explain the situation, she wouldn't understand. Hell, I don't even understand it. I make my way down to the shore, crossing the line of beach to forest.
"I know you are out here, so let's talk." I speak firmly.
Immediately I sense his presence, turning in his direction.
"And why is it that we couldn't speak before?" Philip asks.
"Because." I simply put. "It's none of Sam's concern."
"Ahh yes, the little bird that you imagine as fragile. I inform you that she is not."
"I know that." I spit.
"Do you?" He retorts.
"Cut the shit, Phillip. Why are you here?"
"Oh I think you know that answer my dear friend." He starts. "She is not safe here and though my master believes it is a horrid idea to bring her back, I believe it tis a better place for her to be."
"No, absolutely not." I say sternly. "Everything she knows now is here. Her friends, her family. She cherishes those people."
"What kin?" Philip asks. "Her family is perished."
"Her new family." I say gently.
"Ah, yes. In dire events we cling to those whom show their dependency upon us."
I'm getting angry now.
"Excuse my arrogance, it's just I have been alone for 100 plus years. The importance of a kin is rather silly to me."
"Well you better catch up, because it's everything here and I'm not letting you take her."
He sighs. "I figured you'd say so. Then I shall stay and keep eye. A form of help? Perhaps we shall work together like we once did."
I look at him, trying to figure out his angle before nodding.
"Fine, but the minute or second I feel something is out of order, I will kill you."
Philip holds up his hands for the second time today. "Understood."
I sigh heavily. "I suppose you need a place to stay?"
"These woods are prestige." He mocks.
I roll my eyes. "Let's go."
We head back to the apartment with Philip making little conversation.
"You do know that you will in fact have to inform the lass."
"And why would I have to do that?"
"Certainly I would think she would demand an explanation as to why someone you recently removed from your apartment is now staying in it."
"I'll handle it." I grumble.
"Hmm, I have no doubt that you will."
I block out the rest of Philip's rambles as we climb the steps to the apartment. I open the door, seeing everything just as I left it.
"Make yourself at home." I wave making my way to the bed room. I knock of her door softly waiting for a response. None.
"Sam. Please. I know I'm a major asshole but if you'll let me explain. I promise/--" but as I slowly open the door I realize she is not there. The wind softly blows the curtains away from the window and instantly a course of rage filters though me.
I stalk back into the living room finding Philip watching the CSPAN channel. I grimace shaking my head.
"Well, how did the converse go?"
"She's not here."
"What do you mean?" He questions.
"I mean, she's not here. She left." Before he can say anything else I relinquish his doubt. "She will come back. She has no where else to go."
Though that's not entirely true, Sam is not the kind to intrude on anyone's personal space unless she knows and trusts you.
The night rolls on but Sam never shows. I curse to myself as Philip stretches up right from the couch.
"Well then, perhaps we can continue this conversation in the morn, yeah? Which room shall I be inhabiting?"
I sigh. "Second door on the right."
"Thank you and good evening."
"Yeah, yeah good night."
I wait up watching pointless television shows, waiting for the door to open.
"Come on Sam, where the hell are you." I mumble to myself flipping the channel. I sprawl out onto the couch, angrily punching the cushion. I had already made up my mind that if Sam was not back by the witching hour, I was going out to find her. My keen hearing picks up the soft thuds of boots against the floor in the hallway. I wait patiently before hearing the door mechanism click and let loose.
"Where the hell have you been?" I say sternly.
She says nothing as she heads towards the hallway.
"I was talking to you." I snarl grabbing her arm.
She quickly jerks from my grasp, planting me on my back perch atop me.
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't kill you!" She growls, teeth showing brightly.
I breath hard against her body, fearful at the strength she is showing. I swallow back my fear and look her straight in the eyes. I fill her mind with every mundane moment we shared, the good and the not so good.
"Stop it." She shouts. "Stop it right now!" She falls back, grabbing at her hair. "You're a liar! Everything out of your mouth is a fucking lie!"
She's crying now, but not a sad sob, a mad, angry cry. I let go of the impressions, quickly getting to my feet. She stands, staring at me deliriously.
"Fuck you." She spits and heads off to her room with a slam of the door.
I sigh and head to the couch getting no sleep at all. Any normal mundane would absolutely spent but I still feel completely energized from the confrontation with Sam.
"Shall I assess the damage done?" Philip sweeps.
I shrug. "She tried killing me last night so be warn."
Philip just laughs. "I've handled my fair share of newborns." He trails heading back towards the bedroom.
I listen carefully but Philip is no idiot and no doubt has put some sort of ability to use. I sigh heavily and head for the door, the hunger in the pit of my stomach rages on as I decide to head for the woods off shore.
