On the eighteenth day of Christmas, the Yogscast gave to me,

A Chilly Pun And A Will Strife - William Strife(w_strife)

You almost rolled your eyes at the familiarity of your home computer before you, not just the terrible desktop background of you and most of your old school friends on prom night, but the mojang loading screen and the Skype call incoming sign bleeping at you.

"William Strife," you said, your voice deep and mischievous as you did so. You could imagine him blinking with a smile forming on his face at the sound of it.

"Hello? Have you been taking testosterone?" he teased, causing you to let out a snort of laughter as the Minecraft server loaded on your screen, the chunks of the world forming around you in a rather sandy desert like area, you're avatar already being struck by a cactus you happened to pretty much spawn on.

"So, where've you spawned?" you asked, feeling a smile grow on your face as a wave of overwhelming happiness hit you - the kind where it rushes and you feel it right in your stomach and you want to hold it and never let go. It was rare that both you and Will ever got the time to talk over Minecraft and tea and Skype, due to time zones and business and having lives outside of the Yogscast, but when you did, it slammed down a wave of nostalgia like a frying pan hitting you head. It was weird really, because you'd met Will before you were even aware the Yogscast existed, and that was all thanks to the internet and chat rooms and him being curious at your strange username that will remain unmentioned.

"Um, it's snowy. There's a grey sheep. I am punching it." he said, as you sighed, punching the cactus back and chopping off the top of it.

"Well, I'm a in desert so I don't think that this is going to work very well."

"Ah, well, biomes spawn randomly so you never know. We could be right next to each other," he reassured you as you dashed off away from an already emerging creeper - a lightning charged one at that. You jumped up over several 'sand dunes' as it were, and emerged facing the edge of a jungle biome - you supposed that was one thing you knew that the Minecraft universe would never get right, that jungles and deserts weren't right next door each other in real life.

"True," you said absent-mindedly, clicking your mouse several times as your avatar trekked through the cubed world and hearing the same coming from the other side of Will's headphones, "so, how you doing Will? Everything good at your end of the world?"

"Everything's hot at my end of the world," he said, giving a chuckle and you felt yourself smirk at the opportunity.

"That's just because you live there," you teased, a sly smile on your face as he burst out laughing. An ocelot ran by you, pixel blocks lagging slightly on the leaves that coated the ground before disappearing - you punching down the coco seeds from the trunks and dashing past them.

"Thank you. But no, everything's good. I will be spending Christmas with my parents this year, they want to come round for dinner and that means I've got to make it."

"Use an online recipe," you suggest.

He laughed at this, "no. I think I'll just book a restaurant or something."

You hummed thoughtfully, checking the sky in game as the sun reached directly above you, "well, they're all booked up in this area, so you better be fast."

"Yeah," he said, trailing off with a sigh in his voice, "shame I can't spend Christmas with you lot though, it's been a while since I have."

You nodded, feeling you're throat tighten up slightly and not trusting yourself to actually say anything aloud, you ran blindly out of the jungle - finally finding the edge of the biome and finding yourself in a snowy land that you were determined to find Will in. You hadn't met him in real life other then once when you travelled out to America with your family, and honestly, it was one of the best times of your life. You and Will just connected, you shared humour and whilst most of the time you didn't understand his American ways, the same way he didn't understand you're British - you just fitted. It hit you hard. You wouldn't see him this year, you wouldn't see him for a long time coming. You hadn't seen him for a long time.

"Hey, I think I see you, well, you're nametag anyway," he said, pulling you out of your engulfing thoughts, "oh hey. Behind you." you turned your avatar around, seeing the w-strife Minecraft character in all it's glory with it's blonde hair and black waist-coat over it's red shirt. You could help but imagine what he'd look like wearing something like that in real life, the thought made you laugh.

"Hey, nice place you got here."

"Yeah, feel free to chill out." he said nonchalantly, his character running back off through the trees away from you into a clearing.

"Aha, chill out." you giggled, "cause it's cold."

"Oh wow, I didn't ever realise I'd made that pun," he chuckled back. You shook your head, following him into the clearing where already a small wooden hut was taking shape, chests assorted outside with by the looks of things a furnace and a crafting table inside beside a stairway into the stony undergrowth - as always, Will had worked fast.

"This place is cool," you said, nodding as Will laughed - noticing yet another pun.

"Yeah, the weather's ice too." he said, before cringing and letting out a little groan as you giggled at him.

"That was terrible." you told him, punching his character, knocking him off the roof he was attempting to create.

"Alice!" he moaned, chuckling. This was what use missed, the - pardon my wording - banter that the both of you shared. The jokes, the carelessness of it all. He reminded you of the stupid naivety of school where every joke was funny enough to cry laughing at and the innocence that you lost as you began to understand some others. You bit down hard on your lip as you watched his avatar desperately jump up to place stairs the right way on the roof.

"Just nerd-pole," you choked out between laughter - it was like watching a puppy trying to reach something you'd placed on the side just too high enough to jump to, the determination and pain vivid in it's eyes - "please, it'd be so much less painful to watch."

"Alice, you made me this way, this is the way it has to be," he said, keeping the stern yet playful tone to his voice.

"You made me like this," you repeated, giggling again. And before you could stop yourself you said, "I've missed you."

He suddenly fell silent, his avatar turning to face yours as though that would give you both some sort of realism of the situation even more, "I've missed you a lot too."

You swallowed tightly, grasping onto those words before then ran away and his voice didn't sound right in your head as it echoed about. You stifled a sigh, breathing inwards heavily inside, your voice came out, shaking but strong, "hey, let's make it a new years resolution. To see each other more, through Skype or Minecraft or anything."

There was a beat, "yeah. I'd like that." he said, you could almost hear the smile in his words.
