On the eight day of Christmas, the Yogscast gave to me,
Off-key Christmas Sing-a-longs - Ross Hornby(djh3max), Kim Richards(Nanosounds)
You would be lying if you claimed that you and Kyle - your ditzy yet extremely boyish roommate - hadn't spent the whole day rearranging the covers against the sofa, fiddling with the still undecorated tree, counting the bags of popcorn and shuffling through the bunches of DVD cases before the doorbell eventually rang out in that irritable panic-filled note that let you both know there was less time then you both anticipated.
"You answer it," you insisited, pretending to busy yourself with yet again rearranging the pillows.
Kyle shrugged, stomping off down the hall like an annoyed teenager whilst a smirk embedded itself onto your features; little did he know, that his secret brooding crush of several months going by the name of Kimothy Richards was probably the other side of that door. You heard it creak open and could only imagine Kyle standing there with his mouth gaping open at her.
"Hey Kyle," you heard Kim say in her sing song voice.
"Uh, hi," Kyle said, then you could imagine him shaking his head and swallowing heavily, "sorry, Py only told me that it was Ross."
"Ah well, I'm a little surprise then aren't I!" Kim cheered, brushing past him and appearing in the living room doorway where, whilst Kyle and Ross were no doubt having a 'bro-talk', she animated being sick causing you to stifle giggles.
"Hey Py," Ross said grinning as he appeared in the doorway, a wine bottle in his hand and a trifle case in the other. You returned the smile and dashed off to preparing the popcorn, movie nights were always better with food you decided.
It had kind of become a regular thing with the three of you, starting off with just Kyle and Ross after they met when you managed to drag him to the office with you and to be honest, if you weren't entirely certain on Kyle's puppy love crush on Kim, you would almost say they were dating. Then, after the time you accidentally gate-crashed one of them - they allowed it due to the extra popcorn you happened to bring from your earlier cinema trip where you'd brought far too many packets for just yourself - you had too joined the party of monthly movie nights. Now, you intended to make the appearance of Kim a regular as well, considering there was only so much testosterone you could take alone.
"What films has her majesty prepared for this evening?" you heard Kim call in a royal voice to the kitchen.
You gave a little sarcastic laugh before bounding into the room with a bowl of warm inviting popcorn tucked up close to your chest, "all the Christmas cheesy shit you could imagine short-bread." you grinned, gesturing with your free hand to the pile of DVD's that you and Kyle had constantly neatly made up. Kim, at this, instantly slid to the floor away from the sofa and across to sit cross-legged in front of the TV where the pile was arranged.
"Die Hard?" she suggested, waving it above her head for the boys to see.
"How is Die Hard a cheesy Christmas film?" Ross laughed.
You shrugged in return, "hey, Christmas can be badass too you know."
"Bad Santa? Haven't heard of that one before," Kim said, holding up another.
"I propose we start with a classic," Kyle inputted, finally finding his speech in front of Kim, "how about, It's A Wonderful Life?" the rest of you nodded in return and like that the film was on, all of you curled up on the sofa, you on the edge, Kim beside you, Kyle sitting rather too close to Kim beside that and Ross on the opposite end leaning casually against the arm rest. By the end of the film half of the Popcorn had disappeared and you, Kim and Kyle had decided to simply leave your hands in the bowl to save you the bother of moving suddenly and disturbing the others - you guessed Kyle was probably doing it so he could accidentally brush Kim's hand.
"Oh god, that film is so emotional," you sighed, sliding down the sofa until your neck was crooked and your bum was hanging off the edge, "and won't you look at that we're almost out of popcorn."
"What?" Ross cried with a smile, turning round to finally see the see-through bowl with a couple of sad looking handfuls to salvage at the bottom, then his eyes turned attention to Kim and Kyle's hads practically laced together. That was something you'd forgotten to ask, whether or not Kim liked him back. You raised your eyes at Ross who winked back and you both pushed out of your seats.
"I'll go make more popcorn." "I'll join you."
The two of you crowded slightly inside the kitchen, watching with eager eyes as the popcorn popped inside the microwave, Ross suddenly leaned back against the kitchen counter, causing himself to face you with a grin on his face. You glanced up slightly, looking at him expectantly, "what?" you asked, the smile contagiously growing onto your face too.
"Can we just tell them to kiss already?" Ross asked playfully, nudging your shoulder with his causing you to giggle slightly.
"Yeah well, Kyle is definitely love-sick for her but, whether or not the feelings returned..." you trailed off, narrowing your eyes.
"We should set them up." Ross said insistently, causing you to then raise an eyebrow at him.
"How much of that wine have you drunk?" you asked teasingly.
"Only, one glass. It's not that nice you know." Ross protested, trying to defend himself as you laughed. You always managed to laugh when Ross was around and he constantly insisted that it was a gift, but maybe, just maybe, there was something more to it.
"Alright Mr Cupid, how do you propose we do this 'setting up'?" you asked, pulling open the microwave and basking in the thick heavenly smell, before it was interrupted by Ross' hand diving head first into it and grabbing a more-than-plenty handful. You gave him a glare and he shrugged.
"What? I didn't get any last time. And as for the setting up.... maybe we could just like, leave the house early tomorrow and lock it so they're trapped in."
"OK, two things wrong with that plan sweetheart," you cooed, waggling a finger at him, "one, I'm not locking myself out of my own house. Two, it would technically be kidnapping or holding someone against there will or whatever it is."
The mischievous glow that was gathering in his eyes faded away, "OK OK," he grumbled, taking the bowl of popcorn from you and beginning to slump off towards the living room before you stopped him with an arm causing him to look at you with a half-hope half-curious kind of look.
"How bout we arrange a 'double date' and then don't show up. It happens in movies all the time and always works," you cried happily, far too proud of yourself for it. Ross gave you a lop-sided smile before dropping down the popcorn onto the counter and tugging you towards him using the edge of your jumper before wrapping his arms tight around you in a hug. The warmth radiating off him engulfed you all at once and suddenly you were far too aware how close your legs were brushing each other and how his nose was buried in your hair and how his fingertips were so delicate against your back causing the tickles to run right through you and dance across your own fingers and your knees suddenly felt a little too weak, you let out a contented sigh that was interrupted as he pulled away, that same glowing smile on his face.
"Alright, double date it is."
