Scarlett Rodriguez;

"How is she?" he asks referring to Alanis

"She's great you know besides the fact that she's always asking for her father"

"I know and I'm sorry for leaving you both. I never realized that you two were going to be the most important things in my life"

"You know Hayes I can't right now. I have to get home and set everything up for her birthday party"

"Can I see a picture of her?" He asks and I couldn't say no. At some point he was going to see her

I open the car door and get my purse taking out my wallet. I take the picture out handing it out to him

"She's beautiful" he sighs smiling "She's three today right" I nod as he looks up

"I have to go" I say "can I keep it?" I was debating wether or not he should, I sigh and agree.

"Hola mija" my mom greets me with a big smile on her face "hey ma" I say hugging her.

My mom and I weren't in best terms when she found out I was pregnant with Alanis, I mean I had only just turned 17 and I understood why.

Guest began to arrive as I was taking Alanis upstairs to get her in a dress.

"Beautiful young lady I see" I smile as she stands on her little kids bed.

"Thank you mommy" she giggles hiding her face a little "let's go down stairs baby, there's a party going on without you!"

I take her onto my hips and give her a little kiss.

We reach the bottom of the stairs and the door bell rings. I look outside in the back yard filled with many of my family members, friends and co-workers along with their children.

"Go on baby I'll head there soon" I say smiling at Alanis as she runs outside.

I turn around and open the door and smile. until that smile fades.

"Hayes look-" he cuts me off as he squats down. I look behind me as I see Alanis next to me looking at Hayes.

"Baby" he breaths out, as my heart swells up.

This was my family, the one I was suppose to have.

"Who is t-this" she asks having trouble saying a few words

"No one baby" I smile looking at her as she looks up at me "go on I'll go in a little" she turns around going back outside.

"Hayes you can't just come un-announced. The day you walked out on me is the same day you walked out on her life."

"Scarlett, I'm really sorry I couldn't help myself. I wanted to see her. I had to see her" he tells me as l look away.

"She has your beautiful smile" he says smiling like an idiot, I chuckle "and your ocean blue eyes" he looks at me and I quickly wipe the smile of my face.

"Goodbye Hayes" I say going inside and closing the door.

"Who was that" my mother asks "no one important" I say look at the door and heading out to the backyard.

Alanis comes up to me hugging my leg with her small arms "I love you mommy" I smile my hand on her head stroking her hair

"I love you too my baby doll"
