Hey Guys I put a music video in this chapter I would suggest to start playing it when Regina sees David so it makes since. Ok now back to the story.
***
Regina didn't get much sleep that night or threw out the month that had past by so agonizingly slow for the queen. She hadn't had any nightmares like that first night back in the castle but she still stayed up at night curled into a ball under her sheets, she didn't cry, though she wanted to, all she could feel was this on going pang of sorrow.
Each night she would release the pain by pulling out her heart, telling her self "only for a moment" and let the numbness of not having a heart caused, sink in and she had to put the small organ back in her chest again as fast as she had removed it for fear she wouldn't be able to bring herself to do it if she waited much longer.
This night was no different from the others for the restless queen. It was only after she had placed her heart back into her chest when a voice perked up from the corner of the room.
Regina quickly sat up from her bed.
"Poor sis," Zelena spoke sarcastically. "I might almost feel bad for you, that is if I cared for you in the slightest."
"Go away." Regina said threw gritted teeth.
"But I have something to tell you." Zelena smiled wickedly.
"What." Regina said almost in a growl.
"Oooo, Touchy touchy are we, well I won't stay to long I can tell you need your beauty sleep." Zelena said probably referring to the bags that had formed under Regina's eyes.
Regina rolled her eyes at her remark.
"I just thought I should inform you that I am one step closer to that promise I made to you about taking away everything you ever had. I'm getting closer sis, and there is nothing you can do to stop me." She said smiling.
"Oh, and don't mention are little chats to the others, I wouldn't want them to get any stupid ideas and try to stop me. I'll only kill them sooner." She said and then vanishing in her signature green smoke.
Regina's breath caught in her throat. Everything she had was Henry. She can't take him from her. Can she? But how could she get to him if she herself couldn't even get to him. She tried to comfort herself saying that it wasn't possible but something about the witches threat felt to real to not take seriously.
Regina couldn't go to sleep after what she just witnessed so she pushed herself out of bed and walked out of her bedchambers.
Regina's ears were soon filled with the patter of rain. Her bare feet were cold against the stone floors while she walked threw the corridors of the castle. As she was walking she could see a light threw the crack of a door that had been left ajar.
She approached the door suspiciously and looked threw to the solar room. A solar room was like a modern day living room, in a sense only smaller. Regina could see that the fire place was burning, but she couldn't see anyone in the room.
Slowly she opened the door and a loud creaking noise cut threw the quietness and calmness of the rain like a knife. Regina scrunched her face at the sound hoping it didn't wake anyone.
Regina almost jumped out of her skin from fright when someone sat up on the couch, the couch sat facing away from the door and towards the fireplace.
"David?" Regina asked realizing who she had walked in on. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to wake you." Regina said beginning to walk out the door.
"No, wait! You didn't wake me." David said. "What are you doing awake?"
"I could ask you the same question." She retorted.
"I haven't been able to sleep much since we got back." David said. "And you?"
David gazed upon the queen in her night gown, it was black and hugged her figure perfectly with out being to tight. Her hair was messy, some of it tucked behind her ear and the rest was free or even covering some of her face. You could tell she hadn't slept in ages, but he still found her breath taking.
"I haven't either." Regina said bringing her hand to hold her arm in a nervous matter just thinking about the cause of her restless nights.
"Regina," David said noticing she was upset. "What's wrong?"
Regina was about to make a snappy remark and run for it before she thought about how he had helped her before, she knew he wouldn't judge or ridicule her for her fear. She averted her eyes to the ground as the first tear that had decided to come in a month rolled down her face and fell to the ground.
The tear didn't go unnoticed by David "come here." David said gently.
Regina kept her eyes to the ground but walked over to where David was sitting. He scooted over signaling her to sit down, which she did.
"Hey, look at me." David said sympathetically. Regina was slow in her actions but still looked up at David. "You can talk to me."
Don't tell. I'll only kill them sooner.
Regina shook her head as the witches words rung in her ear reminding her that if she said anything she would kill them. Regina looked back at the ground before covering her face with her hands as she rested her elbows to her knees and she wept. She had wanted to be able to cry before, but she didn't want it to be in front of the Prince she didn't want to be in front of anyone. Just alone.
"Do you want to talk?"
Regina then answered with a shake of her head. "I- I just, I want-" Regina fumbled with her words, scared that one word would cross the line and the witch would kill them. In a change of direction she finished- "Sleep." She breathed out in a desperate manner staring into the fireplace.
David didn't ask another question, he still felt like she was holding back, there was something she wasn't telling him. But he didn't push her for further explanation, instead, he rapped his arm around the queen and in one move pulled her to where she was laying with him on the couch.
Regina didn't pull away, instead she nestled her head to his chest, as if she'd done it a thousand times before. With the sound of rain hitting the roof tops of the castle and the crackling of the fire surrounding them, her cries began to soften as she relaxed in his arms and soon she wasn't gripping his arm as though her life depended on it. She listened in to his heart beat, somehow the sound calmed her and she closed her eyes.
Why was he doing this? She asked herself. Why was she letting him do this? She asked herself. Why was she letting herself be so vulnerable in front of him time after time? Soon her questions were silenced when something she didn't think was possible happened. She fell asleep.
David looked at Regina in his arms. It was a strange feeling but not a bad feeling. This was wrong, wasn't it? He asked himself. But how could it be wrong when it felt so right.
Regina's scent filled his nose, the soft smell of apples and cinnamon. David could feel her breathing steadying and felt as his eyes became heavy, his questions starting to lose any meaning to him.
And on that night for the first time since they had returned to the enchanted forest, the Prince and the so called Evil Queen, finally had a peaceful slumber.
