"Be careful buddy. " Alfie said as Joey, Imelda's son climbed onto my lap.
"It's alright Alf. I'm okay," I replied, reaching for his hand.
Since we found I'm pregnant, Alfie has been extra careful, not wanting anything to hurt me or the kid. Joey raised his eyebrow at Alfie, the same way he does, making me giggle.
"Can I tell you a secret?" Alfie whispered. Joey nodded his head excitedly, "Aunt Fel has a baby growing in her tummy," he continued.
Joey's eyes widened, as he looked at me. He gently put his little hand on my stomach.
"A baby," said Joey.
After seconds of silence, he ran off and screamed, "Aunt Fel has a baby!"
Both of our parents who were sitting at the couch, stunned in silence. "Oh my god! Fel? Are you serious right now? Boy or Girl? Boy or Girl!" my mom demanded, "Mom! Calm down, we haven't checked the gender yet." I said.
I didn't know what to expect until I heard his mother's late reaction to the news. "Oh my god! Really?" She squealed, pulling me into a hug then lowering her hand toward my stomach,
"This baby is going to be so loved."
"Congratulations." I heard his dad say, smile adorning his face, while patting Alfie on the back. My mom and Alfie's mom already started crying and hugging each other.
"Oh, Harold I told you I had a hunch. I just knew it. A mothers' intuition!" She kept continued babbling to poor dad.
Alf's mother clapped her hands excitably, "I remember when Alfie was a baby he had the cutest-" "Mum!"
Alf shook his head, cheeks beginning to tinge pink, "She doesn't need to know that story." I smirked and grabbed his mother's hand, "Oh I'd love to hear that story!"
"And this picture is of Alf running around the house-" His mom started but Alfie interrupted. "Mum!"
"We've seen enough pictures," Alf said closing the book. I laughed and looked at him. "You're no fun." I playfully pushed his shoulder. He just smiled and wrapped his arms around my waist.
Alf's mum came in the room with some tea and I continued to talk and answer her questions. I didn't mind the questions really. I bonded with his mum a little more before we went off.
The whole day was very productive. I never laughed so hard, listening to Alfie's mom blabbers and stories. My mom, the other hand was overly excited about the baby.
The dinner was full of exciting conversation, and a ton of food before we two left, Imel pulled me aside.
She pulled me into a hug and whispered, "I just wanted you to know that I haven't seen Alfie this happy in a long time. So, thank you." I pulled away. "I haven't been this happy in a long time either," I smiled.
Alfie pressed his lips onto my forehead. "How happy are you, with me being pregnant?" I asked, curiously.
"Happy?! I'm on top of the world!"
"I always loved the idea of us having a family. Have you realised how gorgeous our baby will turn out? I mean, look at us!" he replied. I laughed and rubbed my stomach slowly.
It's a weird feeling. But it's a good type of weird. I feel a connection with this kid. I've never felt so happy looking at Alfie smiling when we talked about our baby.
