I bit my bottom lip as the pain faded on my lower stomach. I took deep breath and sighed, of course the babies wanted to come in the middle of the night. After 10 minutes of trying to hold in the pain, I couldn't keep it anymore.
"Alf," I said, reaching over and tapping his shoulder. He mumbled into his pillow. "Alfie," I pleated, beginning to feel more pain.
"Alfie," I repeated. I gently sat up and pulled the blanket off him and shook his shoulder.
"Shut up, I'm sleeping." he said. "Alfie, please." I dragged my words.
He slowly opened his eyes and sleepily rubbed them trying to see me in the dark bedroom.
"More cravings?" he chuckled, sitting up slowly.
I felt another contraction building up. Alfie quickly rolled over and turned on the bedside lamp, before looking back at me.
I gripped Alfie's hand tightly to endure the pain.
"Hey what is it?" he asked in his worry voice.
"Contractions, the twins are coming." I managed to speak.
He kicked the blanket off himself and jumped out of the bed, quickly grabbing a pair of jeans and a t shirt.
"Alf," I whimpered, as my stomach tightened again.
He dropped his shoes and rushed beside me. "Breathe through it," he whispered. I rested my head on his shoulder, exhaling deeply as the contractions ended.
He tucked a piece of hair behind my ear.
"You alright?" he asked.
I nodded my head while trying to stand up. I felt a swell of pressure, different to the contractions and grabbed Alfie's hand.
Before I could say anything, the pressure increased in between my legs, followed by a warm fluid covering my thighs.
My water just broke. I started screaming as more pain was coming.
"Oh my god." he whispered, suprised but excited.
Alf put on his shoes and he helped me into some clean pants. He picked up the hospital bag and rushed out to the car.
Alfie drove to the hospital as fast as he could.
"You're doing so well, you're 7 cm dilated. Only a little bit to go," Dr Lester said, checking my process.
Alfie looked at me, still laying on the bed and gently brushed hair off my forehead. "I'll just to let you know, that if you do get epidural it might be harder to push as you may not feel contractions, but it's up to you." Dr Lester explained.
"I don't know," I mumbled.
Shalyn came in the room as I ask her to come along and I can ask her thoughts on my desicions.
"There are other forms of pain relief, if you need it." Dr Lester added.
"Hmm, how about sitting up? Either on the bed or chair." asked the nurse.
"Nah, just on the bed please." I replied.
I gasped as my stomach tightened.
"Deep breaths," Shalyn encouraged.
"My back," I cried.
Within seconds, Shalyn's hand was massaging my lower back. I took sharp breaths as the pain ended.
"I'm so sorry.... If I could take this for y-" I cut him off with a soft kiss. "I'm okay, I promise. I can feel one of them getting lower," I whispered.
I shifted uncomfortably as I felt another contraction growing, soon after the last one had ended. I closed my eyes, as the pain peaked, my whimpers getting louder.
Suddenly, I felt a wave of pressure in between my legs. "Oh my god," I moaned, squeezing Alfie's hand, "Alf, one of them is right there. I can feel it, get the doctor!"
"Babe, deep breaths," Alfie whispered, squeezing my hand.
Within seconds, the doctor and nurse entered the room.
"Ready Felisha?" Dr Lester asked, as the nurse set up for the twins arrival.
I nodded and bit my lip.
"Alfie, you can help by massaging her lower back slowly," Dr Lester continued.
"You're doing so well, babe. I'm right here," he whispered.
"I'm pushing, I can't help it," I cried, bearing the pain. I moaned as I felt my body strectching around the first baby's head.
"Alfie," I whimpered. "It hurts so badly,"
"I know it does sweetheart," he kissed my forehead and squeezed my hands, "But you're right there, gentle pushes. You're almost done."
I held Liam's hands tightly, as I bore down again, this time focusing on his voice whispering small encouragements in my ear.
"Little pushes, Felisha, panting helps, the head is almost out," Dr Lester said.
I cried out as my body stretched around the baby's head and gasped as the head slid out. I lent back against him, breathing coming out in pants.
"You're close Fel, you can do it." Shalyn cheering on me.
I closed my eyes and pushed, feeling the baby's shoulders turn. Suddenly, Alfie gasped as the baby was placed on my chest. I quickly looked down, as the loud cry filled the room.
"It's a boy!" Shalyn said excitedly. "Alf, he's here, oh my." I whispered, tears filling my eyes, "Our little prince, Nolan."
I looked at Alfie who was already crying. "He looks perfect," Alfie whispered.
The doctor cut the cord and gently handed baby Nolan to the nurse. My smile fell and I sighed deeply.
"I don't want to do that again," I whispered.
"I know babe, but I know you can." he replied, kissing my temple. I could feel the pressure building but it was different.
"Alf," I whimpered, as it increased followed by a pop and my water breaks down my thighs. I could feel the baby move quickly and my body begun pushing on it's own.
Shalyn saw Alfie confused look and whispered, "Remember they are fraternal twins, so they were in seperated water sacs," He nodded after listening to Shalyn's explanation.
"That's it Felisha, baby's head is right there, nice and slow." Dr Lester said.
"Oh my god," Shalyn whispered as she watched.
"Ouch," I moaned, pushing them down again.
"That's it Fel, baby's head is right there, nice and slow," Dr Lester said. "Oh my god," Shalyn whispered as she watched.
"Ow Ow," I moaned, pushing down again. I cried out loudly as the baby slid into the doctor's hands. I let go of Alfie's hands as the baby was placed on my chest.
"Our little princess, born 15 minutes after her brother." as a second loud cry filled the room.
"Hi baby girl," I panted catching my breath.
"Look at her. She looks just like you. Like in my dream. Hey Ava Scarlett," Alf said happily. While Nolan was on my chest, and was wrapped in a blue blanket, as the nurse handed Ava in a pink blanket to Alfie.
