I jumped at the sound of my father's voice and disconnected myself from Aden.
"That would be 'captain buzzkill'. my father." I explained and stood up. Aden nodded slowly and stood up with me. "Do you think he will be angry?" Aden asked with a note of concern in his voice. "I hope not." i started to cringe. Realizing i should have told them not to come for me, that i would meet them at a set time. "Kelly Anne Donnings! would you mind explaining what i just walked in on? Your mother says you told her you were going for a bucket of fries with Alyssa." My father said in an extremely stern voice as he walked towards Aden and I. "Dad," I began and felt my heart sink to my shoes. "This," I paused and motioned to the boy standing next to me. "Is Aden. My boyfriend." I said slowly. Hoping he would take it well. "Aden as in 'he's just a friend.' Aden? the one you were constantly talking to on that device of yours?" He asked with a frown. I nodded but before i could say anything, Aden said, "Yes, Sir. That would be me." Clearly trying his best to be polite. "Why didn't you explain what was going on?" My dad asked. I heard the car door slam and saw my mom come walking over. "Because first of all, i didn't want you guys to be angry with me. And second, i didn't want a chaperone." The last sentence was hard for me to get out. You try telling your parents you lied to them to get out of having a chaperone! "Aaron, what's-" My mother stopped and glanced Aden up and down as she reached my father's side. "This isn't Alyssa." She sounded disgusted. "Mary, this..." my dad pointed to Aden. "Is Kelly's boyfriend. Aden. internet boy. Your daughter lied to you about the sex of whom she intended on meeting to get out of having a chaperone." He said gruffly and crossed his arms. "For Christ's sake, Kelly!" My mom sighed. "I wouldn't have sent a chaperone. And i certainly would have been more accepting of the situation if you had just told me." She snapped. I flinched back accidentally bumping against Aden when she raised her voice. He looped his arm protectively around my shoulder. "Mrs Donnings," Aden started. "That is your name, right?" He asked. My mom scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Please, just call me 'Mary.'" she replied. "Okay." I felt him tense up a little. "Mary, is there anything i can do to shed some light on the situation?" He asked. I was relieved upon realizing he did not intend on letting my parents simply split us up. Whether that was for the sake of his wish agency or feelings for me i will never know. "I'm afraid not, boy." My mom replied simply. Aden's face fell and i felt my blood start to boil. (metaphorically.) "So you intend on splitting us up?" I frowned. "I'm not that heartless!" My mom snapped. "We just need some time to adjust." My father explained calmly. "To what?" I countered. "The whole," He paused and gestured all of Aden. "Boyfriend thing." He finished. "Sir, if it helps, my father is down the fair a little ways helping breakdown. I can call him and have him come speak to you both." Aden suggested. I crossed my fingers, praying that if God could see me now, that it would work. "Alright." My dad grunted and shrugged. Aden let go of me and dug his iPhone out of his pocket and dialed his father. A few seconds of silence. Then Aden spoke. "I'm over at the food court." "..." Yes." "..." "..." "Well actually, her parents are here. They'd like to speak to you if that's alright." "..." "..." "..." "..." "Okay." "Okay." "Bye." And then he hung up. "My dad is on his way now." Aden told my parents as he slipped his phone back into his pocket. "Guuuyyys! What's taking so long!?" Came my little brother's scream from the open window of our mini van. "Kelly has a boyfriend! thats what!" My dad shouted back. Ron climbed out of the window instead of using the door and ran over to us. "Dude, the van has doors for a reason." I said and rolled my eyes at him. "I didn't break the window calm yourself." He sassed then looked Aden up and down. "Who's this?" I was pretty tired of my family asking that. "Oh look, here comes Aden's father. Mom and dad can explain to you. We'll just be over here." I said quickly and tugged on my boyfriend's arm. "Lets go over to the bench while they talk. I'm not quite ready to be away from you yet." I said in a low voice. Aden nodded in reply and we half walked half ran to the bench we'd sat at before. Out of sight of the conversing adults. "Do you think they'll let us be a thing?" I asked and sank into the comfort of leaning Against Aden's chest and shoulder with his arm around me. "Well, they're going to have to. In fact, they kind of already have." He stated. Would it be stupid if i said that made me happy? "How long do you think it'll last?" He asked after a bit of silence. "What?" I lifted my head, confused. "Us." He explained. "Oh. Forever, i hope." I said before putting my head back down. trying not to think about something coming between us. "I hope so too." He whispered and kissed the top of my head. Out of nowhere i started grinning and giggling. "Are you okay?" Aden laughed. "Yeah. I'm just really lucky." I told him without lifting my head off his shoulder. "Me too. Me too." He said quietly and hugged me closer to him. After a bit i lifted my head and glanced past the fries stand t where my family and Aden's father stood. "What do you think they're talking about?" I asked curiously. "Oh i don't know. Anything." Aden shrugged. I turned back to face him. Since he was taller than me, and i had slouched a bit to lean against him, i was met by his handsome face smiling down at me. "So, do you think i can say i have successfully granted my first wish?" He asked as we leaned in closer till our foreheads touched. "Definitely." I whispered. Silence. "Can i kiss you again?" Aden's voice was barely a whisper. "Definitely." I whispered again. Fractions of a second later we tilted our heads at the same time till our lips caught together. And we stayed that way. I can't now recall just how long. But it was broken my the obnoxious voice of my brother beckoning us from the other side of the fries stand.
