~ Chapter Twenty Nine: Fangorn Forest ~••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli are running down the side of a hill, after the Uruk Hai.
"Keep breathing." Gimli pants. "That's the key. Breathe."
"They've run as if the very whips of their masters were behind them." Legolas states.
They continue running into the night.
Merry, Sam and Pippin are being thrown to the ground.
"We're not going no further..." An Orc pants, "... until we've had a breather."
"Get a fire going!" Ugluk orders.
The Orcs and Uruks move towards the trees, before Sam and Pippin crawl towards Merry.
"Merry! Merry!"
"Merry? Are you alright?"
Merry looks up at his friends, with a large cut on his forehead.
"Guys, I think we might have made a mistake leaving the Shire."
Sam and Pippin grin. As the Orcs and Uruks chop down trees, a low loud groaning noise is heard.
"What's making that noise?" Pippin asks.
Sam looks up into the forest.
"It's the trees."
"What?"
"Sam is right." Merry says. "You remember the Old Forest, on the borders of Buckland Folk used to say there was something in the water that made the trees grow tall, and come alive."
"Alive?"
Sam nods his head, before saying, "Trees that could whisper, talk to each other... even move."
"I'm starving." A Uruk says. "We ain't had nothing but maggoty bread for three stinking days!"
"Yeah!" An Uruk named Snaga yells. "Why can't we have some meat?!" He looks at the three Hobbits. "What about them? They're fresh, and look tasty." He looks at Sam. "Especially that fat one!"
"They are not for eating." Ugluk says.
An Uruk Hai drags Merry, Pippin and Sam away from the Orcs.
"What about their legs?" An Orc named Grishnakh says, licking his lips. "They don't need those!"
The Hobbits look horrified, before glancing at their legs.
"They look tasty!"
He walks towards them but is thrown back by Ugluk.
"Get back, scum! The prisoners go to Saruman. Alive and unspoiled."
"Alive?" Grishnakh states, moving towards the Hobbits again. "Why alive? Do they give good sport?"
"They have something. An Elvish weapon. The master wants it for the war."
Snaga creeps up to the Hobbits with his blade.
