~ Chapter Forty Two: Drinking Game ~•••••••••••••••••••••••••
Théoden holds out his goblet of wine to the people of Rohan.
"Tonight, we remember those who gave their blood to defend this country. Hail the victorious dead!"
"Hail!" The people stand and return his toast.
Later, Éomer gives a sly look to Legolas and Gimli. "No pauses, no spills."
"And no regurgitation!" Gimli laughs, lifting the tankard to his mouth.
"So it's a drinking game?" Legolas asks.
"Aye!" The people yell.
"Last one standing wins!" Gimli exclaims, before downing his whole tankard.
Legolas slowly brings the rim to his mouth, before uneasily taking a drink.
Meanwhile, Éowyn approaches Aragorn, with a goblet in her hands. Aragorn notices her and she smiles, before he turns, and slowly takes the goblet. He drinks, as he looks into her eyes. When he finishes, he gives a small smile before walking away. She smiles and blushes, before Théoden walks towards her.
"I am very happy for you. He is an honorable man."
"You are both honourable men." She replies.
Théoden nods slightly.
"It was not Théoden of Rohan who led our people to victory."
He looks down, and she gives him a look of concern.
"Ach, don't listen to me. You are young and tonight is for you."
Meanwhile, Gimli and Legolas continue to drink.
"He he he..." Gimli giggles, as he takes another tankard. "It's the Dwarves that go swimming with the little hairy women!"
"I feel something." Legolas states, looking at his hands. "A slight tingle in my fingers." Éomer raises an eyebrow. "I think it's affecting me."
"Ha ha ha..." Gimli burps, "What did I say? He can't hold his liquor!"
Suddenly, the Dwarfs' eyes cross, and he keels over from his stool.
Legolas raises his eyebrows and looks at Éomer.
"Game over."
