What have I missed?

Chapter 8: So much has changed

As I walked to the park, wearing my joggers; a hoody and converses; not dressed to be out, I realised how much has changed. I now have no friends. My sisters don't live with me anymore, one of them is pregnant. And my mum is engaged. And to top it all off, my crush is in a relationship: with my ex-bestfriend.  

I was too busy distracted by my thoughts I didn't notice the person in front of me and walked straight into them. I fell over on top of him and only realised once I opened my eyes that it was Louis!  

"Ashleigh! Oh...my...god....you're, you're awake! When did you wake up?" Louis asked me and I saw a smile creep onto his face.  

"This morning actually!"  

"I don't know why Alice didn't tell me, I thought she'd be thrilled!"  

"Yeh well, me and Alice kinda had a fight" I didn't know if I should be telling Louis this since I've never really spoken to him before but I had to tell someone.  

"What, why?" 

"She doesn't seem to be the same person she was 6 months ago, but that doesn't matter at the moment, I don't want to bore you!" I smiled weakly.  

"Nothing you say will bore me. Oh and can I have a word with you about something, I have to get something off my chest?"  

"Yeh sure" We both took a seat on the nearby bench and I sat there filling up with nerves.  

"When I found out you were in a coma, I realised I had been such an idiot! I had liked you for ages but didn't think you'd say yes if I asked you out, since you said no to two other guys. Well anyway, once I discovered your accident, I thought I might not be able to tell you how I felt, I was so upset. I just needed to tell you this, I promised myself once you woke up I would confess about my crush." My mouth dropped open, the boy I had fancied for ages had fancied me back?! What on earth?  

 "Then how come your dating Alice" I had to know the answer!  

"I needed someone to talk to, and Alice was there for me, I was vulnerable because I was upset about you and a friend came along and we just ended up together!" I can't process all this is one day, this is all too much!  

" I better go home, my mum will be expecting me." Louis made a sad expression and he brushed his chestnut brown hair out of his face. 

"Ok, bye. See you at school I suppose then" And his dark blue eyes had a hint of sadness!
