Camo’s P.O.V.
I opened my eyes as fast as I could. Monitors were beeping all around me and nurses and doctors were rushing around me. I tried to scream out and call for Peter but all around me were unfamiliar faces. I screamed and I cried but I didn’t know what was going on.
This isn’t Neverland. There are no blasts of canons. No swords clanking. No screams or cried. Just nurses holding me down and telling me I was alright. Telling me I was okay. They bound my wrists down to the bed and held my feet down. I couldn’t stop crying.
Finally I saw a familiar face. Kelly was in a candy stripers uniform and was across the room looking at me wide eyed.
“KELLY!” I screamed but she looked at me with confusion. “Kelly?” I asked. She practically sprinted out of the room. One of the nurses ran after her. Another nurse put a gas thing to cover my mouth on me. I struggled but within seconds I was out cold.
“Camille?” I heard my mother’s voice coming to me in waves. “Baby, you can wake up now.”
I opened my eyes slowly and glanced around the room. My mother and father were standing by my bed and my mom was holding my hand. Andy was in his wheelchair close to my parents. A doctor and a nurse were on the other side looking over at me. I felt like an animal in the zoo. They were all staring at me.
“What’s going on?” I tried to croak out by my throat was dry. My dad handed me a glass of water. It seemed really heavy but I took it and drank the cool liquid through the bendy straw. It felt so good against my dry mouth and throat.
“What’s going on?” I asked again, although this time it was audible.
“Hello Camille.” The doctor said. “You probably have a lot of questions right now but it is best to make sure you are fully awake. You had quite the fall.”
“What are you talking about?” I asked.
“Well, it would seem that a few days ago you were apparently feeling sick and you fainted in the shower and hit your head on the tile. Your brother Andrew found you and luckily found someone to drive you here to the hospital. Your recovery is a miracle.” He finished. “I’ll let you have some time alone now.”
He walked out with the nurse and shut the door behind him. I looked over to my parents and Andy and tried to figure out what happened.
“It’s true. They didn’t even know if you would wake up within the month.” My mother said, tearing up. My dad rubbed my mom’s shoulder.
“How long have I been out?” I asked after taking another gulp.
“Three days.” Andy told me. He couldn’t look me in the eye though, which was strange.
I knew I couldn’t tell my parents about Neverland. They would have me get therapy. Even when I was younger they had been worried because of how much I talked about it. There’s no way in hell I could tell them now.
Although, now that I think about it, Kelly didn’t stay. Where was Peter? What was going on? I was on James’ ship and now I’m here. Where is everyone?
“Can I talk to Andy alone?” I asked. My mom nodded and my dad went with her. Andy was fidgeting with his hands while my parents left then shut the door behind them.
“What really happened?” I asked him. He looked taken back.
“What they said.” He told me.
“Tell me what happened.” I demanded.
“I knew something was up when you told mom you were staying home. So I stayed from physical therapy. When you didn’t try to sneak out I assumed you were sick. Then I heard a really big crash upstairs and I got up as fast as I could and by the time I was there you were unconscious and bleeding.” He told me, shuddering at the memory.
“What happened next?” I asked.
“I guess some guy on the street heard me screaming because he came up and helped me get you and drive us to the hospital.” He said.
“Who is this guy?” I asked.
Andy was about to answer when Steph walked in the door.
“Steph!” I called. She turned to look at me and her face was blank. She refilled my water.
“Steph?” I asked. “Talk to me.” I told her but she just left the room.
“Why didn’t she talk to me?” I asked.
“Maybe because her name is Monica?” Andy said.
“What!?” I questioned.
“Her name is Monica. She just started here with a group of others.” He told me.
“Her name is Steph.” I told him. “I saw her in Neverland.”
“Oh God, not this again.” Andy rolled his eyes. “What drugs did you take this time? Seriously Camo.”
“He came to me again. Peter Pan came to me and took me away and I’ve been with him for years now.” I told him.
“You know I never believed that shit.” Andy said.
“Maybe that’s why you never went.” I whispered.
“I’m done with this. All you can give me is this? Not even a ‘Thanks for saving my life!?’” He asked.
“I know I went.” I said, suddenly unsure of myself.
