They Were Just Characters

Camo’s P.O.V.

They let me walk around with the wheely stick thing. I chose to walk around my floor and see what else was around.

There was a boy in for gang related violence. He looked a lot like Tootles. His condition was stable. He didn’t even glance at me when I passed by. His girlfriend who looked like Kathleen was sitting by his side and holding his head.

I saw a boy who looked like Curly who was also a candy striper. He asked me if I needed anything and I shook my head no.

There were twins in another room that had been in a bike accident. They looked like Marmaduke and Binky.

“Hello there beautiful.” Marmaduke said. Wait, he was talking to me?

            “Hey.” I smiled.

“Haven’t seen you around these parts before.” Binky said with a wink. His girlfriend who looked like Mary slapped him.

“What are your names?” I asked.

            “I’m Charles.” Marmaduke said.

            “And I’m William.” Binky said.

            “Clara.” Mary said.

“I’m Camo.” I told them sadly. Then I walked on.

There was a couple in another room for climbing injuries. They looked like Anna and Slightly. Even though his hand was broken, he still reached out for her and she took it and smiled. I left to not be creepy.

I figured I’d try some more floors. I was only allowed to go up two and down two floors. I must have been walking around for hours until I saw something that made me stop in my tracks.

There was a room that was on the baby floor or whatever it’s called. I heard crying that sounded familiar and an ‘Oh my God’ that I would know anywhere. I followed the sound of the crying and gingerly opened the door a little. A lady had one of those baby views on Libby’s stomach. There was a little figure on the screen and it kind of looked like an alien to be honest. But Nibs was holding her hand and he was tearing up. Libby was sobbing with happiness.

“That is our baby.” Nibs whispered. I wanted so badly to be in there with them. But they aren’t really Nibs and Libby. They’re just some other couple who I made up to be characters from my childhood. I moved on to go back to my room. They were probably wondering where I was by now.

I walked back down and went to my room to check in. Then I moved down to the cafeteria to get some food. It was funny. After seeing everyone I was wondering when I would see Peter. I half expected to see him in the cafeteria but he wasn’t. I looked at the different floors in the hospital on the map and couldn’t figure out where he would be. No…He wouldn’t be.
