Chapter 13

Alex's POV
"Robbins did you look at theses scan's?" I asked Arizona. "No are they bad?" she asked. "It's terrible, There's an brain aneurysm in the the occipital lobe, her kidney and liver are failing, and she's tachycardic." I told her. "Shit!" Robbins yelled. We worked on Karlee for 17 hours all we could do is get the aneurysm fixed and she's not tachycardic anymore, But we need to get her on the transplant list as soon as possible.

As I went to go talk to Jackson I was sweating, I was really nervous. When Jackson saw me he jumped up and walked over to me, April was in definite shock she was just staring blankly at the wall. "How is she?" Jackson asked hope filling in his voice. "Not good, she is 1st on the transplant list but her liver needs help as so-" Jackson cut me off, "Dude check me, Please it would mean a lot to us." Jackson told me. "Okay, follow me then." As Jackson and I walked into the exam room I took the tests and had the labs rushed, and Jackson went back to be with April.

Jackson's POV
As I walked back to April I noticed she wasn't where I left her. "April!" I yelled running down the hall. When I reached on-call room 6 I found her sitting there on the bed. "April? Will you talk to me?" I asked. All she did was put her head on my shoulder. Just then I got a text from Alex  "I got the results can you meet me at the NICU?" Alex's text read.

"April  I'm going to go see Karlee and do you want to to come with me?" I asked her nice and softly. She stood up nodded and grabbed my hand, we then walked to the NICU together. "We have good news and bad news, Jackson your not a match but we know someone who is who works here." Alex told us. "Well  who is it?" I asked him wanting to know. Just then out of the corner of my eye I saw April tearing up , then my phone rang it was my mom.
C=Catherine J=Jackson
C- I'm here with your kids honey.
J-Thanks mom I'll meet you at the front.
C-Okay see you there, also April's parents are here to, I have to get to a meeting with Richard so I'll leave the kids with April's mom and sisters, is that okay?
J- Yeah, yeah thanks again for picking them up, tell her parents I'll be there in a second. I love you and have a safe flight.
C-I love you too keep me updated please
J-Will do.
C- I love you!

And that was that. "Babe your mom and sisters are here with the kids, do you want to get them or me. Then she spoke her first words after everything happened, "I'm going to stay here tell them I'll talk to them later Jack." April told me. "Okay" I said and then gave her a kiss. She smile then said. "I actually want to see my kids, but I don't want to see my mom and sisters." April told me. "Okay you stay around the corner and I'll grab the kids." I said as and we walked to the entrance. Then April stayed around the corner as I went to grab the kids. "Hey Jackson." Karen said. "Where's Duckie?" Kimmie asked. "Um, she decided to stay and talk to Alex, I- I mean Dr. Karev." I told her family. "Can we see Ape's and Karlee?" They asked.

"Not now, the only people allowed back there are me, April, our friend, our doctors, and my mom and stepdad." I told them. "Why is your family back there? And why cant we then?" Karen asked obviously annoyed I already knew she didn't like me. "They're doctors and April wanted them back there with us, as you know my mom picked up our kids from day-care." I told April's family sternly, getting annoyed. "I want to see my daughter! Now!" Karen said yelling at this point. After Karen was done yelling Blake started to cry and Liam woke up from Libby's arms.

Just then April decided to walk around the corner to confront her family. "Mom! Give it a rest! The reason Jackson's family is with us is because if they knew we wanted to be left alone they would leave us alone till further notice!  Just stop pushing my husband! All I want are my kids! I can't lose another one! Leave, Leave now mom I don't want you here!" April said walking over grabbing Liam from Libby and walked away. "Shit!" I muttered to myself while walking away.

"This is just what April needed." When we got back to the NICU there were doctors running to Karlee's aid. As I looked over at April I could tell she was on the verge of a meltdown. I set down Blake's car seat next to a chair where Liam was clinging onto April. "Jo!" I yelled. "Yeah Jackson?" Jo asked walking in the door. "I know I shouldn't ask, but can you watch our kids for a little bit please?" I asked Jo. "Of course." Jo said taking our kids someplace else. As we rushed into the NICU we put on gloves and rushed to our daughters side. "Fill me in!" I yelled at Alex. "Jackson you shouldn't be here!"  "I don't care about rules and regulations!" I yelled. Alex sighed then filled me in "Her liver is failing we have to call UNOS now!" He told me. "DeLuca call UNOS and tell them we need that kidney now!" Alex yelled.

"No pulse charge the paddles to 45, Clear, charge again this time 80, Clear, No pulse charge to 100, Clear still no pulse. Starting CPR! 1...2.....3....4....5....6....7....8...." I heard Alex say to himself. I could tell Alex was worried. All April was focused on was the monitor. In the back of my head I hear a faint annoying buzz, as I snap back to reality I realized Karlee had flatlined. I look over at my wife who is always calm on her knees crying, I knew that this was the end.
