As he handed me the cup of black coffee, he sat next to me. “Why’d you kill them?” The skinny police officer with a black mustache and black short hair asked in a black suit. “It was self-defense,” I admitted. “You can find the lamp that had my mom’s prints on it in the house. You can take swipes of my blood, that with have the texture of the lamp and more of her fingerprints. You will find fingerprints only on the knife I used to kill her. She would’ve kept beating me. I will plead self-defense. She hit me first; I used the closest thing to me. And as for my dad, you will find Jason’s prints on the knife as well, because he used it to make my dad back off. The whole demolish of my mother was an accident. The knife pulled down when it was in my hands, which I had already in force, so it just sliced down. I stabbed her in the heart as well, because all monsters are super human. You will find that my admitting of this will be the same as Jason’s. He saw that they were beating me,” I admitted to the policeman right away. He stared at me as if I were crazy. “And what if he doesn’t?” He asked, testing me. “Then I’ll go to jail for murder. But he’ll admit to it, because it’s the truth,” I told him with all honest, truth and defiance. I chugged the coffee down. I was starving. “Um, sir. Do you by any chance have any food that I could eat?” The truth was that I hadn’t eaten in a very long time. How could I have made it the whole five months without eating? The investigator looked at me confusedly, but could tell something was up. My whole face had stained and dry blood and even new blood. I had bruises surfacing everywhere. He looked at his watch and looked back to me, “You okay with McDonalds?” I stared at him, smiling softly, “Yeah.” I whispered. “Thank you.” Exactly what I needed, fat. I had lost a lot of weight from not eating, so it was something decent to start with. The male investigator slightly nodded and left me alone in the room.
I could tell the investigator felt for me. I could also tell that he wanted to win my case. I rest my head against the table. I had no idea what to expect. I still couldn’t believe that we had killed my parents. I’d never share another memory or get a wish that I had always wished would come true; that my parents stop and we’d be a family again. But deep down in my heart, I knew it’d never come true. I also knew I’d never forget about the many beatings that I had received from them.
As I waited for the investigator to come, the empty gray investigating room’s door flew open. In flew Jason, his arms tightly around me as I stood up. He buried his face in my neck. “How’d it go?” I asked. He lifted his head, “I told them the whole truth and nothing but,” He answered. I nodded, “Good.” He kissed my lips softly. “I missed you so much. Are you okay?” He looked me over. “What happened to you?” He asked worriedly. I shook my head, “A lot of things.” I nodded and sighed. “Let’s just leave it at, Liz and I are definitely no longer friends, and will never be.” The tears flew down my face slowly, stinging my open sores and cuts. He began peppering my bruised and cut face with kisses, softly wiping my tears away. “Don’t worry Sweetheart,” He attempted at comforting. “You’ll be okay.” I leaned against him, not knowing what else was next. I was worried about everything that was going to happen, but at the same time, I was curious. I wanted to know now, if my life was going to be the same or different. I knew it would definitely be both. What’s going on at the Johnson how right now? “I’ve talked to Delilah and told her that you have gone missing. You should call her…” He warned me. I shook my head, my bottom lip quivering. “What if Liz picks up?” I said. “I don’t want anything to do with her!” I yelled. A different investigator entered the room. “What’s wrong?” He asked. I looked at him and shook my head softly, wiping my tears away. “Just everything hitting me, you know?” I answered. The investigator left the room and I looked up at Jason. “Can you please do it? I’ll specifically talk to her if she asks, but…” I shook my head and he understood. He walked to the door and closed it. He walked to the corner of the room and pulled out his phone.
“Hey Delilah, it’s Jason…” He began. “Yes, she’s been found.” He sighed and turned around facing me. “She wants to talk to you,” He said softly. I deeply sighed and walked over to Jason. I took the phone. I took a deep breath, “Delilah… I’m so sorry,” I began. “Don’t be sorry sweetheart. You’re okay. I love you sweetheart. Everything’s going to be okay,” I could tell her voice was sore and stressed with worry. My heart melted at her saying that she loved me, “I love you too,” I said sorrowfully. “I’ll see you as soon as possible, okay?” She said. She said good-bye and hung up the phone leaving me to a dead-line. I closed the phone and handed it to Jason. I sighed and leaned against him again. “What if I go to jail?” I asked him. “I’ll love you no matter what,” He answered, moving the hair out of my eyes. He kissed my lips gently, not wanting to hurt me. “I love you too,” I answered back, a tears falling from my right eye.
The investigator, who I asked to bring me food, was now back, two McDonald’s bags in hand. He set them both down on the table. He looked at Jason and I. “Oh, hello. My name is Investigator Johns,” He shook Jason’s hand. Both Jason and I went and sat at the table, next to one another. Johns sit down next to us as well. He opened up the bags and handed us both a thing of fries and then handed me a Big Mac and watched me as I opened it up. He sat a double quarter pounder in front of Jason. We automatically dug into our warm meal. Both Jason and Johns watched as I gobbled up my burger and fries. “So, since you guys admitted to doing so right away and gave us the evidence untouched and we have everything we need,” Johns started. “We’ll be going straight to trial, tomorrow in face. You’ll have to re-tell your story to the jury and the other lawyer, but otherwise you guys are good to go,” He told us. I nodded slightly. So did Jason. I looked at Jason. I wondered if Delilah or Freddy was going to show to the case. I shrugged slightly to myself. “Thank you,” I politely told the investigator. He nodded approvingly and understandingly. “If you had to do it again, would you?” He asked me. I stared him straight in the face, “No, I wouldn’t. But I would also hope that my parents wouldn’t be beating me. It was complete self-defense Johns. I’ve never wanted to kill anyone, and I never will kill anyone again. Whether it’s self-defense or not,” I told him with honesty. I stood up and walked out of the investigating room. I walked down the isle of desks and out the police office with every detective in the room watching me. I walked out of there, Jason behind me and walked all the way to the Starbucks that Jason and I had met. And that’s where I stayed until it was time to leave for court the next day.
