What was I supposed to do now? Oh Marie why do you do this to yourself! I wasn't sure what to do now. I was thinking of possibly just leaving. Before I could even think of doing that Luke came back to to counter. Crap! I thought.
"Hey." Luke say trying to be civil.
I just stared at him with a blank face.
"Um Marie.. If you came over here to weird me out then you accomplished doing that." Luke says with a horrified expression on his face.
"No.. I-uh came over here to try one of your sugar cookies." I say trying to form a coherent sentence.
Really Marie? You want to try one his sugar cookies.
"Alright sure... If you want to." Luke replies surprised at the fact I was going to buy something from him.
He then got a pastry box and took out two sugar cookies out of the display case. After doing that he rang them up.
"That's going to be $7.25." Luke says now casually.
"What?! That much for just two cookies?" I shout.
What the hell is thinking?! Who in the right mind will pay that much for just two cookies?
"Um yeah.. You got a problem with that?" He asks now annoyed at me.
"Yes I do. Everything in this bakery is overpriced. Clearly you don't have any good sense in business." I give a snarky remark.
"Leave." Luke says irritated about what I just said.
"I will."
"Good." he says.
"I'm not doing this ." I say.
Before he could say anything else I storm out of his bakery. I then went back across the street to mine.
When I walk back inside of Bake City I see Jen at the counter. Busted I thought to myself.
"Hey." I say trying not to look suspicious of where I just went.
"Were you just at Luke's bakery?" She asks me.
I couldn't tell if Jen was mad or upset at me. I could truly never really tell with Jen. She has a good poker face.
"Yeah...kinda..." I answer sheepishly.
"Why?" Jen questions.
I then told her about that young woman I saw hugging Luke.
"What's the big deal? Does it really matter if that's his girlfriend?" Jen asks while cleaning a table.
I didn't reply.
"Wait a minute..." Jen stops cleaning. "You.... you like him!" She says all excited.
"Oh please! Me like him? I would never like someone like him." I try to put on a good show.
"Alright, whatever floats your boat."
After that whole conversation Jen and I got to down to work for the rest of the day, helping customers.
