"Now for the first round bakers, you will be making cupcakes. In your cupcakes you must have something sweet and something savory. These are the requirements that must be in your cupcakes. If you don't have both items, you run the risk of not moving on to the next round. Moving on, you will have forty-five minutes to complete this challenge." Alice explains to all the bakers standing in front of her.
"Your time starts now!" Alice adds in.
Jen and I quickly rush to our assigned workspace. Once at the workspace, we start generating ideas.
"So for the savory part of the cupcake, I was thinking of using bacon. Any thoughts on that?" I say.
"Bacon is perfect! For the sweet part of the cupcake, we can use maple syrup." Jen says excited.
"Brilliant! For the batter, we should do a vanilla flavoring." I add in.
Jen gets to work on the batter, while I start making the frosting. Ten minutes later, I'm done making the frosting.
"Jen, I finished making the frosting, is the batter almost done?" I ask.
"Yep." She says popping the 'p'. "I put the cupcakes in the oven so they should be ready in about twenty minutes."
"Cool, cool. Let's get to work on cooking the bacon for the toppings of the cupcake."
"Alright." Jen says.
Once Jen and I finished making the toppings, the cupcakes were ready to be taken out of the oven to cool.
"Fifteen minutes left bakers!" Alice calls out to us.
After the cupcakes had cooled, Jen began frosting them while I put the toppings.
"Ten seconds left! 10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...your time is up!" Alice calls put.
All the bakers put their hands up in the air. As we do that Alice signals all us bakers to walk up to judges.
"Great job bakers for round one. Now we move on to the tasting. Steve and Tawni, please describe to the judges what kind of cupcake you have made." Alice says.
As Alice says this three plates of cupcakes are placed in front of Seth, Nancy, and Tate.
"Today we have for you a Peanut butter filled cupcake along with a pickle flavored frosting." Steve explains.
Steve and Tawni's cupcake looked disgusting. Just even hearing what they made makes me want to puke.
As the judges see the cupcake their faces turn sour. Not wanting to be impolite they all take a tiny forkful of the cupcake. Seth is the first one to spit out the cupcake into a napkin.
"Steve, Tawni I'm sorry but this cupcake is not edible at all." Nancy speaks up.
"I have to agree with Nancy on this." Tate adds in.
"Okay moving on...Linda, Larry please describe your cupcake to the judges." Alice says trying to move away from the awkward situation with Steve and Tawni's cupcake.
"Today we have for you a mango flavored cupcake, with red hot chili pepper frosting." Linda says brightly.
When the plates of cupcakes are placed in front of the judges, the cupcakes look surprisingly good.
The judges all take a bite full of the cupcake. In an instant Nancy starts crying. "Oh my lord, this is spicy." She cries out before taking sips of water.
"Sorry Nancy but I have to disagree with you on this." Says Seth.
"Are you kidding? I don't know about you, but my mouth is on fire from this cupcake." Tate jumps in.
In an instant Seth and Tate get into a little argument while Nancy is still crying over the spiciness of the cupcake. Alice face turns a shade of red from embarrassment of what's going on.
"Judges, please break it up." Alice scolds Seth and Tate.
"If we can now move on...Marie, Jen please describe your cupcake to the judges." As Alice says this she gives Seth and Tate a glare.
Jen and I look at each other before I speak up. "Today, we have for you a bacon and maple cupcake." I say.
As I tell the judges about the cupcake, they each take a bite.
"Mm... This is really good." Seth says taking another bite of the cupcake.
"It's so moist and I love the frosting." Nancy says now recovered from eating Linda and Larry's cupcake.
"The cupcake itself is so light and fluffy. It's really good." Tate says.
I smile and say thank you.
"And now last but not least Luke and Emily please tell the judges about your cupcake." Alice says.
The cameras move over to Luke and Emily. Luke speaks up and tells the judges about a sweet potato and toasted marshmallow cupcake.
"I love how you combined the marshmallows with the sweet potatoes." Nancy says.
"This cupcake is okay, I'm too fond of the sweet potatoes." Seth says.
"All I have to say is that this is a pretty damn good cupcake." Tate says.
"Alright bakers, now that the judges have tasted all your cupcakes, we will give them a few minutes to decide who will go home first." Alice explains to all of us.
All of us bakers are then ushered into a waiting room, to wait for the judges decision. I hope Jen and me don't get sent home first, I say inside my head.
