17. Old Habits

I was hoping that Luke didn't watch the show Baked. I know that sounds a bit rude or something but this is a chance of a lifetime. I have been waiting for chance like this to come my way for a long time now. But now lets get back to reality, obviously Luke will find about these judges coming sooner or later. Plus I bet you his snobby, rude sister Emily already informed him about these judges.

It was just about closing time when someone stepped into the bakery. I looked up from the cash register and saw that it was Luke. What's he doing here? I thought to myself.

"Hey Luke." I politely greet him.

"Hi" he replies back nonchalantly.

"What are you doing here? If you don't mind me asking." I say.

"I sort of wanted to talk to you about something." Luke says sheepishly.

"Um ok, spill." I say.

"Listen Marie, I have been meaning to talk to you about that kiss." He says.

Is this the part where he tells me he likes me and wants to go out on a date?!, I thought.

"Yeah that kiss." I reply back.

"Marie, I like you and all but I just don't think it would work between us with our bakeries and things." Luke says softly.

"Oh...Um yeah I was thinking that too." I said knowing how much of a lie that was.

"Great, I'm glad that we're on the same page." He replies while checking his watch. "Oh, looks I better get going, see you around." Luke said while heading towards the door.

"Yeah... See you." I say back.

After Luke left I sat down at table in the bakery and just let my thoughts run wild.

"Marie, do you want to do take out tonight? I found this really cool Chinese Restaurant." Jen says walking up to me.

"Take out?" I say beginning to cry about Luke.

"Okay, okay we won't do take out." Jen says trying to reassure me.

"I'm not crying about ordering food." I say between tears.

"Marie, what's wrong? I have never seen you cry like this since high school." Jen says as she sat down next to me.

"It's about Luke." I reply still crying.

"What did he do now? I swear if he steps foot in this bakery one more time I will ring his neck." Jen says.

I then explained Jen what had happened last week and how Luke kissed me.

"Wait, so he came on here to tell you that he still likes but can't be with you!?  What a load of bull!" Jen yells with now hatred towards Luke.

"Yes." I say while drying my tears with a tissue.

"This is unbelievable." Jen says. "Do you think his sister told him to tell you this?!"

While I told Jen about the incident with Luke. I also told her my run in with his sister Emily.

"I don't think so. He was pretty pissed at his sister." I reply.

"Well whatever it is we need to focus on winning over those judges coming to town next week." Jen says.

"Next week?!" I ask in utter surprise.

"Oh yeah I forgot to tell you about that minor, little detail." Jen replies.

"Alright, we need to start preparing starting now." I say now with confidence not caring that I had just cried a few minutes ago.
