"Marie!" Jen calls from the front of the bakery.
"What?" I ask, walking to Jen. She was seated at a table by the windows with her laptop. I happened to be in the kitchen putting another batch of my famous Red Velvet cupcakes in the oven to bake.
"I just got an email from the producers of Baked!" She shouts with excitement.
This could be it. The moment of truth where Jen and I will find out our destiny.
"Well, what are you waiting for? Open the email!" I say eagerly, while taking a seat next to her.
A few clicks later, Jen begins reading the email.
"Dear owners of Bake City." Jen starts off. "We are happy to inform that you have been selected to compete on our show Baked next week for the grand prize of being the new co-hosts of our show!"
"I knew we could do it! All we had to was just believe." I say this as if I'm a five-year-old who has just watched a Peter Pan movie.
Jen cocks her head. "Marie have you been watching way too many Disney movies lately?"
"Pfft of course not."
Okay fine, maybe I have been watching too many lately, but how can you not watch them? They're addicting! And yes if you haven't noticed by now, I sometimes don't act my age. But don't worry though, I can still be taken seriously. Well sometimes...
"Do you smell something burning?" Jen asks as she sniffs the air.
I sniff the air myself. "Yeah, it smells like...cupcakes!" Panic washes over me. I had forgotten about the damn cupcakes baking in the oven!
I quickly sprint to the kitchen to take the cupcakes out of the oven before I burn down the whole bakery.
Putting on oven mitts, I open the oven door and pull the tray full of burnt cupcakes out. Looking down at the tray, I see each and every cupcake burned to the crisp. Just as I'm about to throw them out Jen comes running into the kitchen.
She sees me with the tray of cupcakes and shakes her head in disapproval. "Oh my gosh, that was a close one. Marie next time please be careful to not forget about what you put in the oven to bake."
"Well at least I didn't burn Bake City down." I joke while tossing out the cupcakes into a trash can.
Jen rolls her eyes. "Just to be safe, you are going to work at the register for the rest of the week."
"Alright, fine." I sigh.

Later that night, I had called my parents to tell them the great news about competing on Baked.
"That's great honey. We'll be watching you and Jen the entire time during the competition." My mom says.
"We're so proud of you." My father adds in. My parents had put me on speaker phone, so we could all talk together.
"Well anyways, I will tell you more about the whole competition once I get more details." I say.
"Okay, honey we'll talk to you soon." Mom says.
"Bye Marie." Dad says as he hangs up.
Hitting the end button on my phone, I realize that I need to charge it.
Plugging in my charger to the outlet by my nightstand, I charge my phone.
Feeling sleepy, I get ready for bed and go to sleep.
