Chapter 13-Completed

Since discovering Rebecca's new and multiple abilities she is highly respected and celebrated within the field. Word has traveled to other agencies about her rare combination of skills. This really irks Kyan, since he was always the unique one that was celebrated by the members of the agency and the field.

Her father had to adapt the usual training program to improve on and discover all aspects of Rebecca's new 'super jump' ability, as he called it. Her new physical ability is indeed improving a lot because of this training. However, Kyan is being neglected, since Rebecca's father is spending so much time getting to know Rebecca's new ability and training her to the point where she will be able to use it in the field.

He shows up for training and finds her father still training with her individually. He starts doing random tasks and exercises for a while until he runs out of ideas. After wandering around aimlessly he eventually decides to visit Rebecca's mother's office where she is doing all the paperwork regarding the agency and researching their abilities and training programs.

He enters her office unexpectedly with a sigh. She jumps in her chair and slams her glossy black laptop shut looking exasperated. Her hand flings to her racing heart as she tries to calm herself.

"Kyan, you startled me," she says breathlessly.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to," he says feeling forlorn. His tone takes her by surprise, and she cocks her head at him.

"What is it Kyan?" She asks in a motherly tone, inviting him to sit down across from her table with a gesture of her hand. He sighs and slowly takes a seat.

"I just..." He sighs again pulling a hand through his hair. "This is going to sound so stupid, but I just feel like everyone is forgetting about me?" He cringes at his own words and the response he will receive.

"Oh, Kyan! I don't think anyone is forgetting about you," she says honestly.

"Then why do I feel so lost. I mean, Mr. Kyle is always busy with Rebecca these days and you are always in your office busy on the computer-"

"Kyan, you are a wonderful young man. You are like my own son, really. You have to know that we will never forget about you. You are part of our family, not just an irreplaceable member of our team. Kyle is working so intensely with Rebecca because she is still very new to her powers and to be completely honest, she has always been a bit clumsy. So, they have to work extra hard on teaching her how to use her body and physical abilities." His sulky face still has not changed but she can tell that he has some resentment for excepting the explanation he knows makes sense.

"Remember when you first had to start training with your new ability and how much time Kyle spent helping you control it and how he learned about it with you?" His glance drops to the floor.

"Yeah," he says finally and looks up at her pointed expression. A small silence passes between them as Kyan starts accepting what she told him and the fact that the situation will only be temporary.

"Thank you," he says sincerely.

"Anytime, and when I say that I really mean that you can come time anytime you have a problem." She winks at him playfully.

Meanwhile, Rebecca has, unfortunately, been neglecting her mental abilities and training, due to their presence which is needed elsewhere. Putting the map together has taken them longer than they expected.

They returned to Francois's apartment five more times. The fifth time they went, they completed the map and already tried to work out where they will have to start their journey. The arteries represented the route that they need to take, the other veins represented the country outlines, borders, rivers etc. The smaller map showed them the route from a certain major city in the country where the promised land lies.

The plan is for Rebecca, her parents, Francois (he insisted since he basically made the map), and unfortunately, Kyan to come on the expedition. A few trustworthy agents from other agencies will also be joining however, they will not be informed of the purpose of the expedition.

They have to make arrangements, get gear and make absolutely sure that they know where to go. Which might take a while. Rebecca's mother also insisted that she get more experience in the field before going on the expedition.

And yet they have no idea what will be in store for them.

Two weeks after the completion of the map they have another mission that Rebecca and Kyan have to help out with. Her parents usually went on missions alone and only when they were sure Rebecca could deal with the kind of combat, did they let her come along.

Just as Rebecca comes into the training room, she sees everyone scrambling. Her father walks past her, grabbing all the equipment he might need out of the cupboards and putting it in his bag.

"Hey hon. Get your mission suit on and get your stuff ready," he says with a stoic facial expression as he speed-walks past her.

"Yes!" Rebecca calls out in excitement, punching one hand in the air. She sprints to the locker room and drops her bag next to her locker. As soon as she finishes getting dressed and getting all of her stuff together, she heads to the briefing table. Once again, she is the last one to arrive and her seat between Kyan and her mother is left open.

"Took you long enough!" Kyan says as if he is annoyed, though the cheeky smile on his face says something different. Rebecca rolls her eyes good-naturedly. Even though Kyan gets under her skin, she has learned to deal with him. "But that does not mean that we are friends!" She always thinks to herself.

As soon as she sits down her father begins, "We have received intel of a house robbery that took place. Luckily someone managed to contact the police while the robbery was taking place. Unfortunately, the robber is now holding the household for ransom," he says, leaning on the table with his widespread arms.

"What does this have to do with us? I mean isn't this a job for the FBI or something? Besides, why is he holding them for ransom? Are they even important people?" Kyan asks crossing his arms over his chest defiantly.

"Yes, it does indeed seem strange to get metahumans to help with a situation like this. But you see the robber is one of us. And as for them being important, they are part of the Miles family."

"You're kidding!" Rebecca exclaims as she slams her hands onto the table.

"No, I'm not. They are the most important people in the hotel business," her father says sternly.

"Well, why are we still sitting here? Let's get over there!" She exclaims in haste.

Hey guys, sorry for yet another short chapter. There is a lot going on in this chapter though. The map has been completed and Rebecca is going on another mission!
