They move towards the wall until they are four feet away. Luckily there is no indication that the robber heard them coming.
"You have six seconds left to get Rachel to talk to me or else this beautiful young girl dies. Four, three, two, one..." The girl sticks out her leg mindlessly, ready to take her last step.
"Fine! I'll talk with you!" Rebecca's mother shouts. But it is too late and the girl is falling from the roof of the three-story house. Rebecca steps into Kyan's hands and she pushes off with all her might as he pushes her upwards. The girl is almost halfway to her death when Rebecca catches her and lands safely on the ground with the girl in her arms.
The robber's head flicks after a long while of staring at Rebecca's mother to Rebecca herself, still holding the young girl in her arms. The girl is like a deflated balloon in Rebecca's arms. The robber scowls at Rebecca, but his menacing gaze quickly moves back to her mother.
"Come meet me on the roof. I promise nobody else will get hurt," his hypnotic voice floats down to the people beneath.
"We can't promise the same," Rebecca's father mumbles threateningly.
"I'm going to go talk to him. It might give us more insight into what he is here for and who he is. If I get the chance, I'll jump him and put the speech distorter on him." He clenches his jaw at her words. Although it seems like a logical strategy, he hesitates to send his wife right into the midst of danger.
"Okay, but be save," he says finally after swallowing the lump in his throat. He grabs her hand and gives it an encouraging squeeze.
"What the heck is going on?" The captain shouts in furious confusion. "One minute ago, a girl was standing on a roof ready to jump if we didn't bring a certain Rachel to him, next second the girl is jumping and you were the one he wanted to talk to all along. The worst thing is I can't see the girl. I thought your guys were on it! She's probably dead by now!" He says as he marches towards Rebecca's father in absolute fury.
At that same moment, Rebecca appears and Kyan is waking next to her, carrying the girl. The girl lies with her head in the nook of his shoulder and neck as he comfortably walks towards Rebecca's father.
Rebecca's father leans closer to the captain and whisper-shouts, "Don't doubt my guys." in his ear. "Kyan, take her to the ambulance so they can look at her vitals and monitor her." Kyan nods and walks over to the ambulance, carrying the girl carefully in his arms.
"I'm going up." Rebecca's mother says as she puts her hand on her husband's arm.
"Be safe." He gives her a kiss on the cheek and reluctantly lets her go.
"You know me," she says as she walks toward the entrance of the mansion.
The dark figure on the roof starts to get smaller as he leaves to go into the house again. Rebecca's mother knocks on the door and shrugs as she looks back. Someone opens the door and she recognized him as Mr. Miles. She looks back at her husband with a questioning look. She steps into the house which is amazingly huge and is full of the most expensive furniture money can buy. Rebecca's mother feels a slight pang of jealousy rise within her. She heads to the stairs and reaches the second floor. She arrives in what seems to be a bar area and she walks to where the rest of the stairs lead to the third floor. She rounds a corner and gives a slight yelp when she sees an unexpected figure at the top of the steps.
"Ah, Rachel. Welcome to my humble home." He says as he descends the steps and sticks his hands out, suggesting to the room.
"Just kidding." He gives her a wink whilst wearing a charming smile. She clenches her jaw at the cruel pun.
"What do you want with me? Who are you?" He reaches the bottom of the steps and halts right in front of her face.
"You will find out soon enough what it is I want and who I am doesn't concern you. Who my boss is, however..." He gives a mischievous laugh. She squints as she tries to figure out what he means.
"I can see you're confused so I'll just break it down for you." He starts to walk around her slowly, like a tiger circling its prey. "Your brother met him once. The day he was captured in fact. You tried so hard to save him," he says pouting. He twirls a piece of hair that fell out of her bun, which causes her to catch her breath.
"Yes, now you remember. It was a beautiful scene. You were both so young. So fragile. Unfortunately, you didn't have an ability worth exploring, unlike your brother of course. And we left you, alone. He has become a great ally to us."
"Shut up! He would never help you or your awful organization. Just tell me why you wanted to talk to me," She says in a stern voice as she balls her hands into fists at her sides and remains frozen.
"Fine." He leaves and walks up to the second step.
"We heard about your secret, your daughter who is the chosen one, and your little quest."
"What? How do you...? There's no way you could know about that. We didn't tell anyone," She says dumbfounded, searching her mind for anyone who could have known or told on them.
"Apparently you were less secretive with your brother. Like I said he is a great ally." She runs at him, a fist raised and ready to strike.
"What did you do to him? He would never share a secret that was so important! What did you do?" She shouts as she pounds him. He catches her hands and pins them next to her sides, disabling her.
"Please don't embarrass yourself," he rolls his eyes. She jerks away and pulls her hands out of his grasp. She stumbles a few steps back, her hands in her hair.
"I was sent here to tell you that our boys will be watching you and we will find the promised land."
"You don't deserve to be in the place of legends!" She presses a button on her watch, signaling her husband to come in to take the robber down. The robber notices that she did something strange, but before he could react Rebecca's father had him pinned down on the floor. He pulls out the handcuffs and secures them. He also forces the robber to drink something which takes away his speech. It will wear off after a while, just in time for when he has to confess to his crimes.
Before it kicks in, he says, "You might have captured me, but there are still many others who will finish my job for me." He was taken away and was sent to a mental institute after the police were finished with him.
Hey guys! Whoa, hectic chapter huh? Hope you enjoyed it. Please tell me what you think. Oh! I just have to clear something up. I actually haven't reached my halfway mark yet. Thought this book would be shorter, but the more I write the more twists I think of. The book will be about 30 chapters long. Not sure. Just to give you an idea about how much of the book is left.
