Rebecca gets home and there is a strange vibe in the house but she is too upset to notice. She stomps straight to her room and plops down on her bed. She takes out her phone and begins talking to Melody, telling her the entire story. She didn't tell her that she was part of him feeling rejected his whole life. It took almost 15 minutes to type the whole story.
Melody replies,"So that is why he came stomping in here with a mouth like a blowfish."

"What? Really?" Rebecca types with big eyes and mixed feelings. She wants to roll her eyes at him for being upset when she was the one who had the right to be and yet she felt flattered that he got so upset over her.

"Yeah. He came in here and I greeted him, but he didn't even look at me. Just kept walking towards his room."

"What is up with him today? He just snapped at me out of the blue in the restaurant," Rebecca types furiously.

"You should feel honored. He usually doesn't share any of his feelings. Not with me or our parents."

"Then why did he talk to me?" Rebecca shifts to lie on her stomach because her arms are starting to go numb from holding her cellphone over her head.

"Maybe he trusts you. And that is why he snapped at you when you kept poking him for more info. He told you more than he has us and yet that isn't enough for you. Look I don't like my brother all that much, but we still stick up for each other. That is what siblings do. Also I understand him better, so I'm telling you his point of view."

"I get it. Ugh, I feel so bad now. Tomorrow at the agency I will make things right."

"Good luck." Rebecca stares at the words for a while before closing her eyes. She falls asleep thinking about what she is going to say tomorrow.

The next day after school Rebecca goes to the agency, practicing her speech in her head. When she gets to the training room Kyan isn't there like he usually is. She walks to their locker room to check if he is there.

But he isn't.

She walks over to her father's office to ask him if he knows where Kyan could be. "Dad?"

"I'll be right there. I just want to finish this email," he calls from behind his screen, thinking she is impatient to start training.

"No it, it's not that."

"Yes honey?" He looks up from his laptop, his glasses on the tip of his nose.

"Where is Kyan?" Rebecca asks, leaning against the doorway.

"Oh, he isn't feeling too well today. So he is staying at home." Rebecca hangs her head as guilt starts to eat her up inside.

"Oh, okay." Her father tilts his head to the side, confused by her response.

"What is it?"

"Nothing. There is just something I wanted to tell him," she says and swings around slowly.

Kyan didn't show up that day or the day after that. Rebecca is getting really nervous and the guilt is slowly devouring her each day he doesn't show.

***

Rebecca and her mother are almost ready for their expedition to the promised land. They established that it is somewhere in Ireland near a little rural town. So little that they struggled to find out where the place is. They still couldn't find out what the name of it is.

Rebecca is extremely nervous about the quest. Not only because she is leading the whole expedition, but also because she isn't sure if Kyan is coming or not and if he is coming what he would be like. Luckily all the arrangements where made for a month from now. Her mother kept delaying the quest but at this stage it was to take place a month from now.

She noticed that her mother has been different lately. She has been a little down and very suspicious of everything. She looks over her shoulder constantly as if she is expecting somebody to be following her. She doesn't want to talk to Rebecca about what happened in the Miles' house. Which led Rebecca to assume that that was the reason as to why her mother was acting so strangely.

Training continues per usual and on Monday Rebecca goes to the training room. To her surprise she sees Kyan in his training clothes, working out on a punching bag. Judging by how he is roughly slamming into it with his fists, he is still upset. Rebecca walks up to him cautiously.

"Glad to see you're back. I was starting to get worried about you," she says, wringing her hands as she stands next to him.

"Yeah well, maybe you should stop," he says bluntly as he punches the bag once more. Rebecca frowns at him. Sweat shimmers in his dark hair and on his skin under the whiteness of the LED lights.

"Seriously? You're still hung up on what happened?" She starts harshly but stops herself and reminds herself that her whole purpose was to apologise. She takes a breath and goes back to the speech she practiced. "Look I'm sorry I pushed you to tell me more. I guess I didn't realise how tender a subject it was. I promise I will keep your secret and will only talk about it when you are ready," she finishes sincerely. He glances at her with a blank expression mid punch.
"Will you forgive me?" She asks him in her sweetest voice. He punches the bag again and stops it from swinging. He looks at her panting slightly while she cringes as she waits for a response.

"I'll tolerate you," he says with a straight face yet there is a slight joking tone. Rebecca takes comfort in this fragment of hope and smiles at him.

Rebecca's father comes running in with his cellphone and their heads snap towards him.
"Aunt Sally just went into labour!" He says flustered.

"Really?" Rebecca calls out excitedly. Her father nods frantically.

"Well we better get going," Rebecca's mother says as she stands up from where she has been working in the training room.
They all pile into the the car, Kyan still sticky from his work out. He didn't even have time to shower. Rebecca scrunches her nose.

"Could you sit a little further away from me? You stink," she says playfully. He sits closer to her and tries to push her nose into his armpit. Rebecca laughs uncontrollably and manages to push him away. They arrive at the hospital a little while later and after an hour they are allowed to have their first glimpse of the new baby. It is a boy and Rebecca can't seem to remember a time when Uncle John has been quite so proud. She can't wait to hold the baby in her arms.

"His name is Ryan. Because it sort of sounds like Kyan," Sally says and smiles at Kyan. Kyan looks at her in surprise and then smiles. He is suddenly filled with the feeling of being part of a real family.
"Do you want to hold him?" She asks as she holds him out towards Kyan.

"Can I?" He asks hopefully. She nods and hands him over to Kyan. Kyan takes him and looks down at the sleeping baby. He looks up and smiles proudly. Rebecca sees something in him that she has never seen before.

Gentleness

Hey hey! Cute ending right? This started as a sort of in between-chapter, to tie up some lose ends. But developed into something beautiful. Hope you liked! Comments and votes are appreciated ;)
