"...And that's why we're back in Japan. We'd like to enroll Resu in Karasuno once more."
Resu sat with her siblings in the principal's office. They had lied to her, saying that a family member had fallen ill and they wished to come back to see them. The second year fidgeted, her leg bouncing up and down anxiously. Now that she was back at Karasuno, she was feeling nervous. What if the team didn't want to see her again?
She swallowed thickly, narrowing her eyes. Even if they didn't want to be friends anymore, she had to see them.
"So you're in the Volleyball Club, right?" The principal asked, to which Resu nodded. "Well, they're away in Tokyo for a summer training camp. If you'd like to go, you'll need to sign this." She pushed yet another form for Kouta to sign. "However, you'll need to take your exams first before you go anywhere. Do you want to take them today?"
Her eye twitched but she agreed. It was best to get them over and done with now so she could get to Tokyo as soon as possible. Her siblings wished her good luck and left, heading back to their old home to unpack. Resu was guided to a classroom then handed a thick booklet of exam questions. Sighing, she cracked her knuckles and got to work.
Although she was in a hurry, she took her time answering the questions. Since her brother and sister had decided to move back to back to Japan like she wanted, the least she could do was ace her exams. Resu rolled her pencil between her fingers, her head in her other palm as her eyes scanned the material.
A few hours later she was done and nearly sprinting out the door after she handed them in. The principal had given her the address to the gym the team was currently at but she had to take the bus to get there, and even after that she'd still have to walk. Resu boarded the bus with a grimace, attempting to get comfortable in the plastic seat. She shoved her earbuds in, flipping through her music to drown out the sounds around her.
Leaning on her hand, she stared out the window, the scenery passing by in a blur. Negative thoughts consumed her mind, like usual, but she forced herself to avert her focus on something else. The ride was nerve-wracking to say the least, and the sun was setting as she hopped off the bus.
Resu walked for a bit, trying to figure out where she should go. Once she knew where she was, she began running.
-----
It was only the first day of the training camp, but man, were they exhausted. Especially after the penalty of running up and down the steep hill. The boys sat in the gym, cooling down, gulping down water like it was air.
Yachi watched the teams curiously as she collected the rest of the bottles. She had only been their manager for a few weeks now and she was still getting adjusted to it. Shimizu had assured her she was doing a great job, but yet her doubt of herself still hung in the back of her mind. The first year shook her head angrily.
No! I have to stop thinking so negatively. It doesn't help me at all.
Although she had not known the boys for a long time, she could sense that some of the members seemed a bit...off. Yachi didn't mean that in a mean way, no. It just felt like a few of them were on edge or perhaps even downtrodden. She supposed it was just the penalties weighing down on their confidence.
As she walked past the gym entrance carrying the tray, the door suddenly slid open loudly. Yachi nearly jumped out of her skin, the tray tumbling out of her hands as she let out a squeak. A tall figure held onto the door frame, hunched over and panting. Yachi was pretty sure it was a girl, with long, messy brown hair. The teams turned toward the noise as Shimizu rushed to her side, stepping in front of her.
"I'm sorry, but this is a closed practice."
The girl stood up straight and Shimizu flinched as Yachi cowered behind the third year manager slightly. The girl was very tall with half of her face covered, only one of her dark, threatening eyes visible as she stared down the two of them. She eyed Yachi curiously before tentatively stepping inside, ignoring Shimizu's words. Yachi stepped back further. Was she going to force her way in?!
By now the team had gathered and peered at the girl curiously. A few gasps were heard and now Yachi was feeling confused. Did they know this girl? Why was she here? The stranger cleared her throat, a melancholy expression taking over her features.
"Uh, hi..." She said uncertainly, her eyes moving to the floor. "I, um, convinced my siblings to move back to Japan, so... I'm back now. I understand if you don't want to see me anymore but I wanted t-to," her voice cracked and she swallowed thickly, "...to see you all one more time."
Her words were met with silence. Shaking her head, she smiled sadly and turned, about to walk away, when a cry of "RESU-SAAAAAAAAN!" filled the air. Hinata sprinted forward, latching on to her waist, nearly bowling her over. He was almost sobbing into the back of her shirt and she was shaking.
Yachi blinked in realization. Shimizu had told her a few times about a girl named Resu and how she had moved away about a month ago. Perhaps that was why a few members of the team seemed so down... She was surprised she didn't make the connection before.
Resu turned around to face front, rustling Hinata's hair playfully as Nishinoya jumped onto her back, yelling. Tanaka grinned at her and punching her playfully in the shoulder. Sugawara and Daichi stood back, watching in amusement, while Yamaguchi smiled warmly and Tsukishima just clicked his tongue.
Once everyone backed off, Resu tilted her head to look at Yachi, who squeaked. Resu grinned at her and stuck her hand out in greeting.
"I'm Noakui Resu. It's nice to meet you."
"My n-name is Yachi Hitoka!" The first year stuttered out, surprised at Resu's strong handshake. After the taller girl introduced herself, she didn't seem so intimidating. Yachi mentally smacked herself.
There I go again judging people on their appearances.
-----
Resu was so pleased that the team that had accepted her back so easily. Her mind was finally put to rest and the anxiety gradually left her body. However, her eyes were moving around quickly. They focused on someone standing behind the team, head bowed slightly. Silently, she stepped forward until she was directly in front of Asahi, searching him for any sort of reaction.
To her surprise, he moved first, wrapping her in a tight embrace. She tensed, her arms at her side as she felt tears soak into her shoulder as a whisper of "I missed you..." barely reached her ears. Resu felt her eyes begin to water and she grinned widely as she returned the hug.
"I missed you too."
In the background, Bokuto leaned over to Kuroo, his eyebrows raised high with curiosity.
"Ne, Kuroo, who's the girl?"
Kuroo smirked, his eyes narrowing.
"An old friend."
