Three times a week Resu would get up early to take a long run before school. Today was one of those days, so she slipped into running gear and shoved her school stuff in a bag, slinging it onto her shoulder. She grabbed a protein bar, biting into it hungrily, then walking out her door and locking it behind her.
With a yawn, Resu stretched a bit then broke into a slow jog. She always started slow and picked up the pace as she went, so as to not overexert herself. Generally there were no cars or people out at this time, so she liked to listen to music to pass the time and also pretend there was constant background music in her life or that she was in a 90's montage video.
The second year laughed dully to herself as she shoved her earbuds and moved to press play, but froze as a familiar voice called out her name.
"Resu-saaan!"
Fuck.
Pretending not to hear the call of her name, she instantly shifted into a sprint, not even bothering to put her music on. Resu knew she was going to regret her quick movements, but she did not want to interact with the energetic first year this early in the morning.
Managing to replace her earbuds in her pocket, Resu was relieved to hear nothing behind her. Needless to say when Hinata appeared next to her on his bike, she jumped quite a bit. With a glare in his direction, she increased her pace. Her long powerful legs pounded across the pavement and the scenery passed by in a blur.
Before she knew it, Resu had reached the school. She leaned against the tree and panted; it had been quite a long time since she had run that fast. The tall second year leaned up only to see Hinata locking his back onto the bike rack. With a low snarl, she stalked over to the short boy, intending to give him a piece of her mind.
She was surprised, however, when he turned to her with a wide smile.
"You're so fast! I could barely keep up with you," Hinata said earnestly.
"Well, I used to be the ace of my previous track teams," Resu said, an edge of smugness tainting her voice. She blinked after realizing what she said. Why was she telling him this?
Hinata opened his mouth to say more but was interrupted by a yell from across the courtyard.
"Oi, Hinata! You're going to be late to practice!" A black-haired boy snapped, turning his back to them and jogging to the gym.
The orange-haired boy in front of her took off without another word, yelling after the boy who had called out to him. Resu paused for a moment, staring off in the direction they went. She then shook her head and headed to the locker room.
Luckily the door was already unlocked so she didn't have to wait for someone to come and open it. She could still smell a hint of the decaying bird that had been left for her, so she took out her things and sprayed a bit of her sister's perfume from a safe distance. It was immensely strong, but she supposed it was better than having her locker smell like rotted flesh. Resu shoved her belongings back in her locker and headed to the bathroom to get changed and freshened up.
She exited the bathroom with a large yawn, glancing at the clock. It was still a little bit before school actually started, unfortunately, so she supposed she would just walk around for a bit.
Resu stretched her arms behind her head as she walked, bored. Her journey brought her to the gym where she could hear the boys' practice going on. The door was slightly ajar, and (after quickly scanning her surroundings so no one would see her) she peeked in, slightly curious about the club (although she would never admit that out loud).
As she watched them practice, she was slightly surprised at their skill. Granted, Resu didn't know jack shit about volleyball, but they seemed talented at the least. Her natural curiosity taking over, she leaned forward a bit more to observe them closer.
