A ball, they say. A party, they say. A way to find the young lady I will spend the rest of my life with, is what they tell me. A woman to love as I sit in my throne, as I lead my country to greatness. That is what they say, of course.
But I beg to differ, after all I am never going to be interested in their games, and I believe them to be wasting their precious time. But they, they never need to know that.

Preface; Ashton's POV
I could hear my shoes pitter patter against the tile floor as I walked down the long hallways. The high ceilings echoing out every sound. The sun shining through the windows that never seemed to end. I could hear nothing but the gentle autumn breeze against the enormous walls. Otherwise, it was so quiet that I am sure my every breath was heard.
I walked into a room without windows, lit by the fireplace as my mother and father sat in chairs near it. I pulled on my collar slightly. They said they wanted to chat, but I had no idea what they would desire to discuss with me. After all, we did not ever hold much conversation. Strictly business in this family setting. It was what I was born into, what I was accustomed to, and what I would say I rather enjoyed.
"Hello Ashton." My mother greeted me with a welcoming smile. She was indeed the Queen and a much beloved one at that. Many of the peasants that roamed the kingdom loved and adored her. Unlike my cold-hearted iron-fisted father, whom others had only appreciated due to the fact that he kept everyone safe and sound with his wandering concepts of what was good, and what was evil. Although, there was nothing in between these.
"Hello." I responded, there was very little happiness to my voice like that my mother had previously created. I fear I take after my father more than my mother. Cold-hearted, not exactly. But I knew how to keep everything else at bay while the seas stirred. "You ordered for me?"
"Indeed we did." My father had replied. I listened patiently for him to speak. "Ashton, we feel as if you do not interact with many other people of your age, and as a result we had been wondering what to do about it." Honestly, I saw no problem. I had Calum, and I even spent a good amount of time with my father's advisor Michael.
"I would have to disagree." I said, but my comment went unrecognized.
"So I was discussing with Michael on what we should do." My father smiled. "We are not going to live forever."
"This, I know."
"And it is almost time for you to inherit the throne." My father pointed out. "But you can not take it until you have married. Which you will never do on your own. And we're being a little bit considerate of you. Your mother and I were fortunate enough not to be arranged into marriage, so we actually enjoy one another. We want you to have this same experience, but giving you a little push since you will never do so on your own."
"And you have an idea?" I folded my arms and pushed all my weight onto one foot.
"We want to have a lovely little..." My mother smiled wider and wider. "A ball."
I cocked an eyebrow. "You can not be serious."
"We want to invite everyone!" My mother smiled.
"Do I even have a say?"
"Do not fret about any of the details, as we have already started taking care of it. It will be a wonderful experience." My mother smiled. "Now run along, we just wanted to give you this information so you could prepare yourself for that night. It will be fantastic."
"I beg to differ."
"Ashton, we do not require your negativity." My father spoke with a warning voice. "Now run along, and do whatever you will with your time."
I scoffed and left the room. Maybe I was a little immature about the whole situation. But after all, I was the spoilt little single child.
And no one in this damned world, was ever going to be good enough for me.
