L U K E

Leona had stabbed Ashton, my king, my friend, and my lover. He had stumbled back and I caught him just before he went tumbling into the dust. As I set him down gently I couldn't help but let the tears go as I did. I could hear Leona's screams as the crowd that had shown up attacked her, not a single guard stopped them from doing so. Good, she deserved everything I got.

As they carried Ashton away, the tears continued to flow down my cheeks as I ran to Sparrow. I was frantically pushing my way through people to get to the mare until they realised who I was, they moved apart for me. As soon as I had climbed onto Sparrow's back, I urged her into a quick gallop towards the castle. A stable hand took my horse from me as I ran inside.

"Where is he?" I asked frantically upon entering the throne room, the Queen was sat looking defeated and sad. "Are you okay your majesty?" I asked her.

"I do not know. I have lost my husband, my son was stabbed by Leona and she sounded so... So genuine in her promises..." The Queen said. I did not know what to say, so I stayed quiet beside her. "Will you take care of him Lucifer?" She asked after a while. "Will you keep him from becoming a tyrant like his father. Please do not let him become that, do not become that yourself."

"I will do my very best your majesty, I promise." I told her.

"That is all I could ever hope for." She sighed.

It was silent for a while before Michael came in and led the queen to her quarters. And sent me to the room I stayed in before the ball. I did as said but rather slowly. I was simply too frightened for Ashton's life to move much faster. Closing the large wooden door behind me after entering my quarters, I wandered over to the bed and laid down on top of the blankets.

When I awoke there was another person in the room and a quilt draped over my body. I sat up slowly and rubbed a balled up fist in against my eyes before looking over to the figure sat in the chair in the corner of the room. It was Calum.

I let out a quiet whimper and moved farther up the bed and cowering beneath the blankets.

"I will not hurt you Lucifer." He said with a roll of his eyes.

"It is Luke, and I do not believe you." I replied.

"Okay then Luke. Come with me, the Prince is okay but he is not awake." The knight said and stood up, his armour clinked together as he moved. I quickly got up and followed after him as he walked to my lover's room. Calum pushed open the door and stepped aside for me before following me in after. Ashton was laying on his bed bare chested with thick bandages around his stomach. He was almost as pale as the sheets he laid on.

"D-do you know when he will wake?" I asked Calum.

"No." He shook his head. "He lost a lot of blood and they are not sure if he will."

"What happens then?" I asked and swallowed back the lump in my throat. When no response came I slowly made my way over to where Ashton lay on his bed. I carefully climbed on beside him. As I laid down beside him I brushed some of his curly hair from his eyes. Oh how I wished that they would open and I would be able to see those beautiful hazel eyes. It had barely been a day and I was already longing for him to wake.

"Hey!?" A voice shouted. I jumped and snapped my head towards it. It was Michael standing in the doorway. "You are not allowed in here."

"But-"

"I do not care. Get out." He snapped and pushed me from the room. Once outside I saw Calum standing beside the door.

"You knew I was not allowed in there! Why did you let me if I was not allowed?" I hissed.

"Because I figured you would go there yourself." He shrugged.

"I may have stolen but that does not mean I will break every law." I snapped.

"If you say so." Calum replied breathily. I rolled my eyes and walked away from him. I knew he did not follow for I did not look to check for I could not hear his footsteps following after me.

I had one place in mind and that was the dungeons. I would go down there no matter if I was allowed or not. They could not stop me from seeing the woman who stabbed Ashton. Upon reaching the stairs down, I let out a breath and stormed down the stairs. Leona was there.

She was sat in a cell looking battered, bruised and bloodied yet smug. "Ah, there you are Lucifer." She said as if we were old friends.

"Leona." I snapped.

"So how is Ashton? He faring well?" She breezed on as if she had not stabbed him.

"You know perfectly well." I hissed. "You stabbed him!"

"Oh I know. Rather proud of it if I do say so myself. Seeing you so helpless was rather amusing." She chuckled. "I always remember seeing you in the background whenever father brought me to visit. You were so... Hm, what's the word? Ah yes, so ridiculous." She sneered. "Never thought you would make this far in life, father would always say you would probably find yourself down here. But of course you have been."

"Where are you going with this Leona?" I snapped.

"You are asking me? You think I know?" She laughed manically. "You are even more stupid than I first thought." She said.

"Shut it!" I yelled and slammed on the bars of her cell.

"No no no young Lucifer, you have no power over me. I am a princess, you are a peasant." She snapped.

"I may be a peasant now but at least I am not destined to hang." I said smugly. "My people have another heir to the throne. Do Ashton's?" She asked although she already knew.

"Michael could. He could lead this kingdom well. Do not think you can still win. You have already lost." I sneered and spun on my heel before walking away.

"This is not over Lucifer!" Leona screamed as I walked further away and up the stairs. But it was, it was over for her. She had played her ace and failed. She had lost.
