L U K E
My parents were there. They were stood on the other side of a topiary horse and some bright yellow roses talking with the king. It was awfully frightening. But my main thought was whatever could they be doing here?
"Ashton?" I whispered from my place on his lap.
"Yes Luke?" He replied just as quietly.
"Why are they here?" I asked and pointed to them. "Have they come to get me killed? All I did was-"
"Luke, shut up." Ashton interrupted me quietly and helped me to stand up. "We must get past them, come with me." He ordered and stood up himself. Nodding I followed him through the well pruned gardens and into the castle.
We both let out a relieved breath once we were through the large wooden doors. The prince carefully took my hand and walked beside me down the halls. I barely recognised where we were in the castle until he pushed open the door into the ballroom.
"Mother?" He called out and looked around for the queen.
"What are you doing?" I hissed he simply waved me off and continued to look for his mother.
"Over here my boy." The queen appeared from behind a large pillar with streamers and bunting in her arms.
"I have chosen who I-"
"Ashton, there you are." The king walked in with my parents trailing after him. I ducked behind Ashton and released his hand in fear as I peeked over his shoulder. "Have you found your bride yet?" He asked.
"Actually, yes-"
"Great because some old friends of mine have a daughter that would be suitable for your hand." The king said.
"But-"
"Lucinda Hemmings is her name." The king cut Ashton off yet again.
"Father I-"
"No need to thank me dear boy." The king looked rather chuffed with himself, however, Ashton did not.
"Frederick, let the boy speak." The queen said sternly.
"Thank you mother." Ashton sighed. "I have already found who I wish to marry." He said proudly. "I am sorry but I can not marry your daughter. I have my eyes on someone else." He stared at me with a small smile on his lips.
"And who might that be, hm?" The king asked. He did not look pleased now.
"His name is Lucifer Hemmings. He is Lucinda's brother." Ashton stepped aside and the looks on my parents and the king's faces made me wish he didn't.
"You can not-"
"Yes, father, I can. Mother said that I can marry who I wish, and I wish to marry Luke. Not his sister." Ashton said cutting the king off.
"Oh, Ashton, I'm proud of you." The queen gushed and strode over to us. "Hello again Luke." She said.
"Greetings your Majesty." I bowed and kissed the back of her hand.
"Ashton!" The king roared. "No son of mine is going to marry another man. You will marry Lucinda not this... This filthy street rat that belongs in the dungeons."
"Then I will leave. I will take my lover with me and leave. You will have to find a new heir. I believe Calum would quite like it. Maybe Michael would like to have a little taste of power." Ashton turns to his mother. "I am very sorry mother, I have let you down but I can not marry someone other than Luke, and if he will not let me, we will leave."
"Think rationally my son, do not leave entirely. Please stay in the palace but, do take Luke and find his friend, go tell her that you will be marrying. I'm proud of you Ashton." The queen told him.
With a nod Ashton and I left the ballroom hand in hand. We were barely out the door when we heard shouts coming from the king and queen.
"I am sorry Ashton." I said softly and leaned my head on his shoulder.
"Do not apologise Luke, it is not your fault that my father is a small minded fool." He reassured me and wrapped a comforting arm around me as we approached Faye's room.
I raised my fist to knock and moments later the door was pulled open by Faye with Prince Griffon standing behind her.
"Hello Luke, Ashton." Faye said and let us in.
"You two are looking rather cozy." The other prince said with a slight smirk.
"Well Luke is who I have chosen to marry." Ashton said and two did not look in the slightest bit surprised.
"So what brings you lovebirds here?" Faye sniggers.
"Mother and father are arguing, father was trying to arrange a marriage for me and Luke's sister Lucinda. I told him no and so he is not happy with me or mother for supporting us" Ashton told them.
"You know, I always thought that you would not be one to marry a lady Ashton, you never noticed them all that much when we would walk around Lura and Rivarin, it was always the men that stood out to you." Griffon said thoughtfully.
Ashton simply shrugged and tightened his arm around me. "We clearly are not the only ones who found their lover at the ball." I pointed out and both Faye and Griffon started to blush. "I am proud of you Faye, you said yourself that you did not think that you would ever find your lover yet here you are." I gestured to the two. Turning to Griffon I said "You had better take care of her." I told him sternly and Ashton chuckled quietly beside me.
"I will do everything in my power. Do not worry for your friend, Luke." The prince said.
"You had better." I said. The four of us say quietly as we ate, a servant had brought some platters of food in earlier.
"What do you think is going to happen once my people find out that I am marrying Luke and not a woman?" Ashton spoke up after a while.
"I do not know dear friend, but I do know this; some will accept you while others will not. But do not force them to accept you being homosexual. Let them come to terms with it on their own." Griffon replied.
"I do not know what I would do without you, Griffon, just having Leona would have driven me mad." Ashton said with a slight chuckle.
"She could drive anyone mad, it is not just you." Faye giggled and laid her head on her lover's shoulder. They looked perfect for each other, even though they looked completely different.
I hope that I looked just as perfect with Ashton as they do together.
