Many people think Ash's name comes from the Pokémon anime.
The chapter 'Ash Meets Ash' was inspired by comments early on in the Kim Kidnapped Saga.
Ash was the love interest name of the main character (London) in my first story EVER on wattpad 'Love Is Magic"' and MLP FiM Fanfic.
Almost 2 years later (as my account was made in Jan of 2014) it only has 504 reads and 7 votes.
The story 'A Dark Heart' was written early on in Ask The MLP Cast's rise to fame. Almost 1.5 yaers later it only has 331 reads and 9 votes.
Ash was supposed to be a cool and rebellious name. (the exact opposite of the Ask The MLP Cast Ash).
Quick Answer: So Ash's name comes from and earlier story, not Pokémon.
