Garnet (1)~The rescue

Everybody's asleep. The night is quiet.

Me?

On a mission.

The warp-pad hums and then stops. I open my eyes.

Stretches of sea and aubrieta flowers fold into the origami waves. Thin strips of clouds cut across the pale fading light.

I walk up to the squishing molded sand that is being softened by the calming soft waves. I go up to the shoreline and promptly stick my head inside the water.

Murky sands slosh around me, pebbles tumbling into the slow currents. I move my hand around the squishing sands until I feel a smooth surface.

I reach in and grab it out, coming back out of the water. A smooth gem is gleaming in my hands. I smile to myself.

My hand reaches over to bubble it, but suddenly, it takes form. The Moonstone gem spreads out in a burst of white light, slashing through my side.

Before I know it, I've split.

Ruby:

"Sapphire!?" I turn. Sapphire sits up.

"I'm ok."

I nod, relieved.

We both turn towards the beach, where a small gem has formed. It's very small and short, stumbling onto the beach.

It forms, and the gem falls onto her butt, into the sand, the waves lapping at her back. She's breathing quite heavily.

She has ~YSC~ skin and ~YHC~ hair, and...a brown t-shirt. I look at Sapphire. She looks back at me as we both get up together.

The gem has her gem placed on her chest, gleaming polished and smooth, crystal and clean. She sits up, rubbing her head.

I reel.

She's...almost...human. The brown t-shirt lazily blows in the wind, and she has some black shorts blowing and deepening into the sand.

She's almost a teenager, rubbing her eyes and trying to stand up. She slips and falls back into the waves and sloshing sand. She laughs.

We walk up to her.

"Hello...?" I ask. She gasps and stares up at us. She scrambles to get up, standing feet above us, the t-shirt almost reaching her hips.

She whimpers as her long legs shake violently. She stumbles and falls onto her butt. Sapphire smiles warmly.

"Hello."

The girl just stares up at us.

"h...hi..."

"Are you ok?" Sapphire asks. Her calm voice makes me blush for whatever reason. The girl looks around.

She looks at the large landscape of endless sand and flowers, pebbles and beach. Her hands grasp some damp sand, the sand washing against her back.

"I don't...I don't know, exactly." She looks at her hands, then at her gem, then whimpers. "I just remember...a boat...a boat...and a storm...I..."

She whimpers and covering her head with her hand, breathing heavily. "I remember...my name is ~YN~...I..." She stops.

I touch her shoulder with my hand, and I smile. "I'm Ruby, and this is Sapphire. Are you a gem exactly or a human or...?"

"Ruby!" Sapphire shouts.

I turn. "What!?"

"Don't scare her!"

"Sorry!"

~YN~ mutters something under her breath.

"I...I remember I have...parents...but we were on a small kayak...my mom's a gem and she..." She suddenly looks sick as she looks at her gem.

"..we were about to flip the kayak in a massive storm, my mom's gem was moonstone, and my dad..." Her eyes widen.

She stands up so quickly her shoulder hits my forehead, and she looks out into the open sea in a panic.

Without any warning, she shouts out, "DAD!! MOM!!!!" She continues shouting, her voice starting to strain and sobs choking her throat.

Eventually, her legs give out again, and she's left silently crying on the edge of the water. Sapphire suddenly hugs me, and we fuse.

Garnet:

The Moonstone gem hears the fusion shimmer and turns around. Her eyes widen. "You...fused.." She asks, her voice still breaking slightly.

I nod.

I place my hand on the girl's shoulder.

"Here, come back with me, you'll get shelter there." She comes with me, onto the warp-pad, back into the temple.

I light a few vanilla candles, stir some hot cocoa, and throw a light blanket to ~YN~. She shivers and wraps it around herself.

"So..." I say kindly.

She starts. Almost instantly, tears begin to form in her pale eyes.

"I have parents...my mom only escaped from the gem war a while ago...she met my dad...and they had me, but that made my mom..."

She blushes.

"Me...I guess."

"Then why did you call out to her?" I ask. She sighs and blushes, her face turning a shade of bright red.

"Sorry." She wipes at her cheek. 

"That was just...I do that a lot...I always think she's still here but...she's not." She sighs. I smile. "So...you're stranded?"

She nods.

"Well...would you like to stay with me?" She looks up. "Until we find my dad?" I nod. She smiles. "...Ok. I'd like that."

She sips her hot cocoa.

I smile.
