"Ok, ~YN,~ what is this?"

Your mom sit across from you the couch and holds up a couple cards for you.You squint your eyes and answer, "23."

Mom smiles. "Good job."

She puts the card away and hands another to you.

You brush back your ~YHC~ bangs and look at it.

Your stuffed ~YFA~ is right next to you, and you squish it nervously. This problem is a little bit harder.

"19," you finally answers.

Mom smiles and ruffles your hair as you laugh. "Good job."

As you go over some more questions, your mom eventually asks if you want some lunch.

"Yes please," You say, licking your lips.

You end up eating some ~YFF~ and a smoothie. As you eat, Garnet says, "you know,~ YN~, would you want to start school soon?"

You almost choke on the food that's in your mouth, and you take a quick swig of water, cough a couple of times, and look at mom like she just grew an extra eye.

She reaches across the table from you and holds your hands.

She speaks in a calm and soothing voice, as though not to scare or alarm you.

"Listen, how about we try it for a little bit, and if you don't like it, you can continue to be home-schooled by me?"

You take a moment to consider it, then you nod smiling.

Garnet is unfused when you wake up.

"Morning," You mumble.

"Morning, Sleepyhead," Sapphire says, giving you a plate of toast, looking really proud, smiling. Ruby yawns.

"Why do we have to get up so early?" She asks, resting her head on the counter. Sapphire pats Ruby on the back.

"It's for ~YN~, Ruby," Sapphire says to her, sounding anxious. You roll your eyes.

"Why are you two unfused?" You ask them.

"To be there for you!" Sapphire says.

Ruby yawns again. Sapphire elbows her. You laugh.

You sit by them.

Sunlight streams in through the windows, sunning your hair. Ruby ruffles it. "You didn't do your hair?" She asks.

Sapphire face-palmed. "Ruby!" Ruby laughs. Sapphire says in a calmer voice, "~YN~ does not need to worry about her hair, she's fine the way she is..."

You smile and blush.

Ruby swivels around in her seat, facing you. "So, what're you wearing...?...suspenders and navy t-shirt...sneakers...khakis...cool."

You blush. "I just threw it on."

"You have good aim," Sapphire says.

The three of you eat breakfast together (warm toast with honey and cocoa.) and then all head outside.

It's warm, sun shining against the each and sea water lapping on the shore line, softening it. A few people walk by, holding hands in nice summer clothes and smiling.

You stand outside. Sapphire gets teary-eyed. "I'm so proud of you," She says, hugging you. Ruby smiles at you, ruffling your hair.

"Knock 'em dead, kid," She says, smiling at you. You hug them both, and then walk down thw wooden birch steps of the temple.

You sigh. You clutch your navy denim backpack, and you inhale. inhale, exhale...you look at the window, where Ruby is waving at you.

You laugh.

You step onto the beach, walking. You then start running, running, wind blowing throw your ~YHC~ hair.

You laugh and start cart-wheeling past the shops, to the docks, your hands rubbing and feeling the wooden docks, cracks and scratches brushing against your knuckles.

You suddenly stop, having fallen onto someone.

"Hey, get off of me!" Someone pushes your leg off of themselves. Your face turns bright red. "Sorry..." you whimper.

A boy about your age spins around, face red, growling at you. You get up, face pale now. You feel yourself shaking.

"Watch were you're going you clumsy dork!"

He stops.

"Hey...you're the one that has those two moms, right?" You feel your face grow hot.

"Yeah...why?"

The boy snickers.

"You're so weird! You have two moms!? That's so weird! I bet you don't have any friends!"

You growl, "I have them! I have Steven!"

The boy shoves your shoulder.

"Loser."

Your voice dies down.

"Whatever, anyone with two moms is weird enough on their own, but gems!?"

You inhale, exhale. Just like Sapphire taught you...breathe in...breathe out...just...float. You turn away.

"Whatever"

You walk away.

The boy is silent.

Then he mumbles something under his breath.

"Blue and red losers...they must have a mental disorder."

You stop. Your face turns a bright shade of red, and you spin around. Now, all of you energy in Ruby comes out.

You say angrily, you fists clenched,

"Don't say that about my moms."

Your hand stings, but it's so worth it. You smile proudly, your fist raw and red, but pumping. adrenaline pumps through your blood.

You smile bigger then ever, but you look up to see Ruby and Sapphire, open mouths, pale faces, staring at you.

"You kicked him in the stomach!?" Sapphire screams.

"And punched him in the forehead!" You say proudly.

Ruby laughs.

"Wow...I'm proud of you, kid."

her eyes shine, and your smile continues to glow. Sapphire coughs, and the two of you blush.

The three of you are standing just outside the house.

"Ok...well...um..." Sapphire looked up at you.

"That's interesting...I...didn't think that was the approach you can take but...I'm proud of you."

She hugs you, and you hug her back.

"Just next time, let me beat him up," Ruby says, smiling while punching her other hand with her fist. You smile back at her.

Sapphire sighs.

"We should go check the boy and make sure he's ok...I kind of just...let him stay on the dock..." You blush.

Sapphire facepalms, and ruby just laughs.

Needless to say, you'll stay homeschooled for a while.
