Chapter 18

I continued running down the sidewalk till I slowed down and started walking. I still have no clue where I am. How in the world am I going to get home if I don’t know where I am? I checked my phone to see what time I was. 11:30. Jesus Christ, where does the time go? I continued walking down the dark sidewalk, now with a drizzle starting. I looked up at the sky and screamed: “Dammit!” Suddenly, a car came racing down the dark street and slowed down when it approached me.

“Kat?!” the window rolled down to reveal Alex, oh thank God! “What are you doing out here, hoe?”

“Wow, Alex, nice to see you too.”

“Need a ride?” he raised his eyebrows, a playful smile growing.

“Please?”

“Get in the car, slut.” I ran over to the passenger side and climbed in his SUV. “So why are you out here, anyway?”

“Well, my mom and I got lost and some how ended up out here, and then she left. Where is this place?” I looked over at Alex who was now looking straight forward watching the road.

“Glenview.” I straightened up and stared out the windshield. Glenview isn’t the nicest place in Georgia where we live; in fact it’s probably one of the worst if not the worst. A lot of killings and drugs happen out here, so how did I end up way out here? “Hey, have you seen Liam lately?” Alex turned to me to ask.

“Yeah, I just saw him a few hours ago. Why?”

“Cause I think that’s him right there.” I looked where Alex was pointing towards and he was right, Liam and his crew were all sitting on the curb of the street.

“Stop the car.” I demanded.

“A little sassy, are we?” I rolled my eyes at him and he chuckled, pulling over to the curb. I got out of the car and walked over to Liam who was now standing up.

“What are you still doing out here?” he asked.

“I was thinking the same thing.” I crossed my bare arms over my chest, a chill escaping.

“Are you cold?” Liam took off his sweatshirt that was black and had: Summer Set Football Team across the front. He handed it to me and I mumbled a “thanks” back.

“What are you idiots doing out here? Its almost midnight! Are we just gonna stand around here waiting to get raped? I don’t think so!” Alex yelled from the driver’s seat. “Get in the car, god dammit!”

We all chuckled before we ran into the car because: A) it was starting to rain. And B) Alex was starting to slowly pull away. I got into the passenger seat and the boys got into the two rows of seats in the back. Alex was speeding down the road at top speed. I was looking out the window at the gross looking buildings whizzing past us. Suddenly the dark figure from the two times before was standing at the corner of the block.

“Speed up.” Liam mumbled from the back seat.

“On it.” Alex mumbled back. The SUV started to go even faster, the man looked up at us but it’s so dark I couldn’t see his face, again.

“Slow down.” I barked at him.

“Faster.” Liam barked at Alex. I turned around in my seat and looked at Liam.

“Did you not hear me say slow down? We are going way to fast somebody could get hurt.”

“You don’t understand, Kat. We need to get out of Glenview as soon as possible.”

“If you say so.” I snapped at him. I turned around and faced the windshield. Alex looked over at me and he squeezed my knee and gave me a little smile with a little nod. I smiled back then turned back towards the windshield again. After about 45 minutes later we pulled up to my house.

“Thanks, Alex!” I got out of the car. “See ya, guys.” A chorus of “byes” and “see ya’s” echoed back. I ran up to the door and went inside.

“Mom! I’m home!” I walked into the living room and sitting there were two people who weren’t my mom.

One was Blake.

The other, was my father.
