Chapter 12
No.
Not going to happen.
I REFUSE to go see that bastard of a father!
I looked down at my spilled juice on the floor and backed up to meet the eyes of my lovely mother.
“Kat-“
“NO! NO MOM. I REFUSE TO GO SEE HIM. HE RUINED YOUR AND OUR LIVES. GOD, MOM, WHY DO YOU STILL LOVE HIM?” I screamed in her face. Blake jumped up from his seat and scowled at her as well. “DON’T YOU SEE THAT HE’S PLAYING YOU, MOM? HE’S ON DRUGS FOR GOD’S SAKE.” Blake strode over to me and tried holding me back. My mother on the other hand was trying to calm me down.
“Honey, he loves us! He misses us! Just give him a chance-“
“I DID, AND HE DID DRUGS INSTEAD. HE’S A HORRIBLE PERSON, MOM.”
“Come on, Kat, let’s go to school.” Blake picked me up by the waist and slugged both of our book bags over his shoulders and continued holding me. I never realized how strong he is! He let me go once we were outside…and the whole neighborhood saw me having a freak out. Oh well, they didn’t like me anyway. As I was being dragged out of the house, I looked up and saw that my mother was on the floor, leaning against the cabinets with her head in her hands, most likely crying. I felt like hugging her and apologizing but for whatever reason, I couldn’t. Maybe because my idiot brother was dragging me out of the house. Who knows?
Blake let me down when we hit the sidewalk. I took my book bag from Blake’s shoulder and strode beside him still upset.
“Jesus, Kat, I’m upset too but it’s not moms fault. Do you think she wants this? For what happened?” Blake stopped.
“I know she doesn’t but she can’t make us go and visit him! For God’s sake he could be on drugs still as far as we know!” I turned and looked at him.
“He’s still our dad Kat, whether we like it or not, he’s still our father.” He turned and walked back inside the house. I knew I couldn’t just go back inside and pretend everything was ok, so I started walking to school.
When I got to school I had already missed 1st mod because I felt like going the long way instead of going the shorter way but oh well, I don’t like Spanish anyway. As I walked to my locker to get my stuff for 2nd mod I heard footsteps and grunting coming from the area where my locker was. Low and behold, Bradley was at his locker as well.
“You are joining the late party too?” I strolled over to my locker and put in my combination and started putting my books in my back pack.
“Funny, actually I was talking to the principal.” He shut his locker and turned to face me.
“Why?”
“What, can’t a guy go have a nice friendly chat with the principal?” a boyish smile tugged at the corners of his mouth.
“Well, maybe a normal boy, but not you.” I shut my locker and turned to face him, leaning against my locker.
“If you must know, I was helping Coach order the uniforms for the team.”
“In October?”
“Never to early to have your uniform. Come on, Kat, if anyone knows about clothes it should be you.”
“Why is that?”
“Because you’re a girl.”
I’ve heard that phrase so many times in my life.
Because you’re a girl.
Trying out for baseball teams in the past, I’ve heard that plenty of times. Watching sports and being told I’m not supposed to. I’m supposed to be watching shows like: Dance Moms, orAmerica’s Next Top Model.
I froze in my steps and glared at Bradley.
“What does me being a girl have to do with uniforms?”
“Well, girls love clothes and you’re a girl so I figured-“
“Listen to me, Bradley. You don’t know me, or who I am, or what I do. You know my name. And I’m pretty sure you don’t know my real full name, now do you?”
“Um…”
“:That’s what I thought. Do me a favor and back up.” I shooed my hands in a effort to shoo him away. He obeyed and I rolled my eyes and walked past him to the classroom where Chloe would most likely be exiting soon.
He doesn’t know my story.
He doesn’t even know my name.
