~Liam's POV~

I hadn’t realized that I’d fallen asleep until a knock on my door woke me.

    “Come in.”

    Ruth entered.  “Hey.”

    “Hi.  What’s up?”

“You’re my brother,” she started.  “And I love you, but you really messed it up with Daisy.  She needs someone to be there for her.  You’re just leaving like everyone has.”

“I’m not leaving, she’s pushing me away.”

“Of course she is!  You have to show her that no matter what, you’ll be by her side.”

    “How do I do that?”

    “Start by saying sorry.”

    “For what?”

“For pushing her boundaries.  To be a good friend, you’re going to have to work with her feelings.  And you’re kind of disregarding them.”

    “How am I disregarding them?”

“You’re being selfish.  You want to know things about her past that she doesn’t want to share with you.  Be respectful of that.”

    “Okay,” I said.  “I’m going.”

    “It’s about time.”

“It’s only been four hours,” I defended.

“That’s four hours too long, Li.”

    “Alright, alright.  Shut up.”

I stood up, washed my face, and headed to the guest room.

“Daisy?” I asked, standing at her doorway.

She looked at me, silently, her eyes red.

“I’m sorry.  I never meant to make you uncomfortable, I just want you to be happy.  And if that means never talking to me again, I’d be okay with that.  But I care about you too much to never see you after all of this is over.”

    “Same here.”

    “What?”

“Why do you think I’m trying to distance myself?”

    “I don’t know.  Why?”

“Because I actually want to continue to be your friend.  I became emotionally attached to you, and that’s never happened to me before.  I couldn’t stand the thought of being hurt… again.”

“I’ll never hurt you,” I said.

     “I know.”

Coming over to her, I brought my arms around her body.  We hugged each other until she pulled away.

“So I’ve wanted to do something for awhile,” she admitted.

    “What?”

She stood up and tugged at my hand.  Obliging her, I rose as well.  She put her hand on my shoulder, explaining the dance.

“I’m going to teach you how to waltz.”

And she did.  Eventually, the two of us were spinning around the guest room.  When she laughed, I laughed too, the contagious giggle immediately making me happier.

The call for dinner startled us, and we quickly ran down the stairs.

After dinner, we all sat down for a movie, and Daisy curled up next to me.  I stroked her hair gently, as I watched the film.

When I went to my room to go to sleep, I couldn’t get the image of Daisy out of my mind.  Her amazingly blue eyes seemed to hold me in.  She was so cute when she laughed, and she knew when I needed a friend.  I hadn’t talked to Kelly in some time.  I wondered if I should call her to check up…  But before I could dial her number, my eyelids closed and I fell asleep.
