I said my goodbyes yet again and went on my way. I met many trainers that were strong in their own right and that I knew would become even stronger one day. I caught a few other Pokémon along the way through Viridian Forest. As I left the forest, I was approached by a very imposing figure. "You are very strong and you have a very close bond with your Pokémon." The man said. He looked very rugged, but upheld himself well. I recognized him right away as the Pewter City Gym Leader. "You're Brock, aren't you?" I asked. "So, you do know who I am." Brock said as if he wasn't surprised. "I've had a lot of time over the years to learn the basics of what I would need to know for when I started my journey. I found the reports of how you gave trainers advice after awarding a gym badge or defeating them, very interesting." I said. "I'm glad that I could stand out to you. Are you going to the gym?" Brock asked.

"Yes. I've trained hard alongside my partners and I wanted to see how well we worked together in an actual battle." I said. "Well then, I look forward to our battle. You mind if I walk with you back to the city?" Brock asked. "No, I don't mind. I'd actually like to hear from you what it's like to be a Gym Leader." I said. We started walking and Brock told me that he enjoys his position as Gym Leader because he gets to influence trainers and help them to better themselves. He said that he was like a goal that trainers strive for, to be like and help others. "Of course, there's been a lot of talk about a new influence to trainers that has shown up recently." Brock said. "Oh, what influence would that be?" I asked. "A lot of trainers I've faced say that their Pokémon that they used to face off against me were saved by the Legendary Trainer." Brock said.

My heart fell hard. I didn't know if he was just telling me this or if he figured out who I was. "The Legendary Trainer hasn't been heard from since the Kanto Wars. I wonder where he's been all of this time." Brock said. I didn't get the feeling that he knew that he was talking to me about myself. "Maybe he's just been waiting until he was needed again. These Pokémon stealers haven't shown up until just recently." I said trying to keep the conversation from turning into what I feared. "Maybe you're right." Brock said. We entered Pewter City and Brock took me to the Pokémon Center and then led me to the gym. "You'll have to face the trainers in the gym before you can face me. I'm still looking forward to our battle." Brock said. He went inside. I waited five minutes before entering the gym.

I finally went in and battled the Gym Trainers with ease. I got to Brock and he just looked at me with a face like he was saying, "What took you so long?" "You ready for the battle?" Brock asked. "Yes, we're ready." I said as I grabbed the Poke balls I would be using. "This will be a two on six battle. That means that you can use all six of your Pokémon whereas I have to use only two Pokémon. Now, I specialize in rock types, so I won't go down as easy." Brock explained. I agreed and the referee said for the battle to start. Brock sent out a Geodude while I sent out my male Nidoran. I used my powers to give Nidoran commands telepathically while Brock spoke his commands. Nidoran used Double Kick to knock out the Geodude.

"You and your Nidoran must be able to think alike since you never once said aloud for it to do anything. I've never seen such a strong bond." Brock said. "Tell you what Brock, I'll tell you how we are doing this after I defeat your second Pokémon." I said with a lot of confidence. "I like the confidence you have. But this next Pokémon won't be so easy to defeat." Brock said as he threw the Poke ball. His last Pokémon was Onix. This thing was at least twenty five to thirty feet tall. It made Nidoran look like an insect in comparison. "Nidoran, you okay to stay in?" I asked. It nodded and said yes. I went back to the telepathy and told it to use Poison Sting and follow up with Double Kick. Brock was still thrown off by Nidoran and I not talking out loud. He commanded Onix to use wrap on Nidoran. I just chuckled a little bit at this. "What's so funny?" Brock asked. "You made it so we didn't even have to use Poison Sting. Nidoran's ability is Poison Point. And that is now making Onix's Sturdy ineffective." I said.

Nidoran had just enough space to use Double Kick to get free. Onix took a good amount of damage from that combination. It was at half of its HP when I withdrew Nidoran. "Bulbasaur, you're up." I said as I threw the Poke ball. Bulbasaur set up Leech Seed as I had told it to. Brock was in deep thought as to what to do. "Onix, use Bide." Brock told it. Onix stood very still. "You know that Leech Seed and Poison damage doesn't count towards Bide, right?" I asked. "I know that, but you still have to attack to get this battle finished. Onix shouldn't be knocked out that easy." Brock said. I withdrew Bulbasaur and threw out Squirtle. I had Squirtle use Water Gun and Bubble during the two Bide turns. Surprisingly, it withstood all of it, even the Leech Seed and Poison. Onix attacked with all of the energy it stored in it and knocked out Squirtle. I caught Squirtle from the throw of Bide.

"Alright. You definitely got me there. But I still have two of the Pokémon I used earlier." I said. Brock just looked like he couldn't wait to see what I would do next. "Charmander, let's finish this." I said. Everyone watching was shocked at this choice. "Charmander? You are full of surprises! This is definitely going to be interesting if you go straight to Charmander at the end of this." Brock said, just waiting to see what I do. I gave up on the telepathy and just shouted "Charmander, use Metal Claw!" Charmander jumped up to use the move on Onix's head. When he landed the attack, Onix fell down. "Onix is unable to battle. Charmander is the winner, which means that the victory goes to William from Pallet Town." The referee said. "I have never wanted to lose so badly in my entire career as a Gym Leader. This is yours. You earned it with great skill and a surprise around every corner." Brock said as he handed me the Boulder Badge.

"Thanks Brock. Now it's time for me to live up to my end of the deal." I said. We went to a private office like room where Brock and I talked. I told him that I was the Legendary Trainer and that I used my power of speaking to Pokémon using telepathy to battle him for the badge. "Now that you know my secret, I hope that you will keep it just that. I am trying to keep the Legendary Trainer and myself separate so that no one treats me differently." I said. "I'll keep your secret, William. But, I knew when I met you that you were the Legendary Trainer. There's a certain spark or aura that you put off that shows someone like me that you're more than just any normal trainer. I'm just impressed at how mature you are for your age and how well you and your Pokémon work together." Brock said.

"By the way, Onix says that he enjoyed the battle just as much as you did, but wishes that you would stop just talking to me and get him healed from the poison." I said. "Oh shoot, I nearly forgot. Come with me to the center?" Brock asked. "Sure." I said. We walked to the center and found Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny talking about something. While Chansey took the Pokémon to be healed in the machine, I asked Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny what had happened. Nurse Joy said "Two people came and stole all of the injured Pokémon that were being healed." I asked her what they looked like. "They were in white clothes with a red R on the shirts and they had a talking Meowth." I realized that this was the same group that I had stopped in Viridian City. Chansey was tugging at my jeans with my Poke balls in hand. I thanked her and Nurse Joy and told Officer Jenny to follow me.
