Chapter 17: Freeing Mewtwo

I stopped arguing. When night falls and the girls fall asleep, I start leaving for Viridian City when Clefairy stops me. "William, you need to stay here! You will push yourself too hard if you go and deal with Mewtwo. Ellie won't know what to do with herself if you get yourself killed." Clefairy says. "I can't go back on my word to Mewtwo. I told him that within a day's time, I would free him. I'm not going back on my word." I say sternly. "William, you are honorable in that you don't want to go back on your word like that. But, you can't go on a suicide mission." Clefairy starts to develop tears as she says this. I decide to listen to her. "Mewtwo, can you hear me?" I ask trying to make a connection.

"I can hear you. Are you nearby?" Mewtwo asks. "I'm sorry. I know I said within a day's time, but after that psychic meeting, I was left in a state that I cannot come to help you and ensure I'll leave with my life as well. I need to hold that for a few days so that I can recover fully before I come to get you. Is that okay?" I ask. "I understand. But, please do hurry." Mewtwo said. "Thank you. I will send you a psychic message when I am working to get you." I say. I go back up stairs and find Ellie waiting for me. She looked at me with slight tears. "I'm going back to bed. I'm not going anywhere." I say. She cheers up and kisses my cheek. I go back inside and lay down.

The next two days, I recover and wait until nightfall to try to leave. Everyone is asleep and I fly to Viridian. I stand outside the Gym and call Mewtwo. "Mewtwo, I'm outside. Are you able to hear me?" I ask. I don't get an answer. "Mewtwo? If you can hear me, respond. I can sense you're inside." I say. Still no answer. "It's morphin time!" I activate the armor before going in. When I get in, I see Mewtwo in a coat of armor standing next to Giovanni. "Legendary Trainer, were you expecting to walk in and steal my ultimate weapon?" Giovanni asked with a smirk on his face. "I'll give you one chance to set Mewtwo free before I have to defeat you to do so myself." I say. "I'll tell you what, you answer a question for me that has bothered me since we first met, and I'll remove the armor from the weapon." Giovanni says. "What question?" I ask. "You said that you met me before that day at Mt. Moon. Where did we meet?" Giovanni asks.

"Five years ago, you were in Viridian Forest trying to steal a Charmeleon from a trainer and a five year old boy used that same Charmeleon to defeat you while the Charmeleon's trainer was standing right there." I say. "You were the trainer who owned the Charmeleon?" Giovanni asked. "Power down!" I say. "I was the five year old boy who beat you with a borrowed Charmeleon." I say. Giovanni was utterly shocked when seeing me and hearing this. "Team Rocket has been foiled in all of our plans by a ten year old boy portraying as a menacing legend?" Giovanni asks. I send out Aggron and said, "Let Mewtwo go!" I say. Giovanni grabs a remote and hits a button. The armor on Mewtwo activates and Mewtwo begins attacking. "Aggron, knock off the helmet on Mewtwo so I can look into its eyes." I say telepathically. Aggron uses Iron Head and the helmet comes off. I look it in the eyes and see a symbol. "Stylus, manual mode, activate." I say. The stylus follows my movements underneath Mewtwo. Mewtwo calms down and starts listening to me.

Mewtwo turns to Giovanni, ready to attack. "Mewtwo, stand down!" I order him. "This creature is no benefit to society and will ruin it if not dealt with now." Mewtwo says. "You're right. But that doesn't mean that we kill him. I will deal with him soon enough. You are free to roam the Earth." I say. Mewtwo leaves. I look at Giovanni and say; "I will finish you and Team Rocket when I come for my final badge. You just wait." He sits in the chair slightly afraid. I leave and get back to where Leaf and Ellie are waiting for me, steaming mad. "Before you yell at me, Team Rocket has lost their ultimate weapon." I say. Leaf punches my arm. "Oww. Will you stop doing that?" I ask. "When you stop doing something stupid like that and let us help you, I will." Leaf says. "Leaf's right. You leave us on the sidelines and make us worry about you." Ellie says.

"I'm sorry. Ellie, I told you when we first met that I didn't want to put you into danger and that's the same for both of you. Giovanni was possibly the most dangerous mission I've gone on. I couldn't let you two come with me. Plus, I've known I wouldn't be bringing you along for this for a while." I say. "That doesn't matter. We aren't just people you can pick and choose when you take us on missions. We've been with you since the first gym in some cases." Leaf says. We argue for a while before Ellie finally breaks down crying. "Ellie, what's wrong?" I ask. "I know we said we wouldn't talk about this anymore, but I can't keep it in after this. William, I love you. I've been in love with you since I first met you. Watching you put yourself in danger for others is honorable but terrifies me. I don't want to lose you before getting to be with you." Ellie says as tears roll down her eyes.

"AlrightWilliam, we've had some time since we last spoke about this. It's time for youto choose just so that we aren't just left in suspense like this." Leaf says."First, this is just like the vision I had when I had to make the choice.Second, I can't deny it anymore. I have fallen for Ellie. I'm sorry Leaf. Ididn't want to hurt anyone's feelings with my choice." I said. "It's not aproblem. I just want to get this out of the way so we aren't doing this for anylonger." Leaf says. "As long as you two don't do any lovey dovey stuff in frontof me, I won't have a problem with you two being together." Despite that beingsaid, Ellie kisses me passionately because I chose her. "Ellie, what did I justsay?" Leaf asks annoyed. "Sorry. I couldn't help it." Ellie said with a look ofcute innocence on her face.
