When I felt that I had all of my energy back, we all left for Vermillion City. I kept looking at Ellie as Lugia flew us to the route where it had picked us up. I didn't know what the feeling I had every time I looked at her was, but I knew that it was growing stronger everyday that we were together. We landed in the route and found that a few trainers had been beaten badly when we finally got to the Pokémon Center. "What happened to these Pokémon?" Ellie asked Nurse Joy. "These Pokémon were just in the Gym Battle against Lt. Surge. He's relentless because of him being in the Kanto Wars." Nurse Joy explained to us. Later that night, Ellie asked Leaf and I how we expected to beat someone like that.

"We can't use Pikachu or Wartortle. Charmeleon could take a good amount of electrical attacks. I know this from where we would train for everything and Pikachu poured out all of his electricity on Charmeleon and Charmeleon still had enough strength to attack right back. Ivysaur and Venusaur should be fine since Grass resists Electric." I said. I couldn't shake the feeling that I knew how relentless Lt. Surge was first hand, but I hadn't ever faced him before. That night, I had a dream of being in the Kanto Wars. I was fighting with Lt. Surge beside me. His electric types Pokémon were strong and basically stopped everything in front of us. I used a symbol that I didn't recognize and a giant whale like Legendary Pokémon appeared.

I woke up and did my meditation before the girls woke up. I went to the gym before they started to wake up to speak with Lt. Surge and see if he knew anything about my dream. "Lt. Surge, I have a question to ask you." I said to him while he had his back towards me. "You have a spark inside you that's very familiar to me. I haven't noticed that kind of spark since the Kanto Wars ended. What's your question, kid?" Lt. Surge said. "I feel like we've been on a battlefield together before. Can you explain to me why I feel that way?" I asked. He looked at me like I was out of my mind. But then, he thought about it. "In this dream, did you use a symbol to summon a whale like Pokémon?" Lt. Surge asked. "Yes. How did you know?" I asked. "I fought beside the Legendary Trainer in the Kanto Wars. We were actually great friends and he told me a lot about how his powers worked. He told me that if he ever used up too much of his energy, the cycle would start again." Lt. Surge said, as he was looking me over.

"What cycle?" I asked. "The Reincarnation Cycle. The powers of the Legendary Trainer, and his memories, would be transferred to the next trainer, but not all at once. Only certain things unlock their memories. I actually have something for you from your past incarnations." Lt. Surge explained. "What do you have?" I asked. He went into a safe and pulled out four Poke balls. "These are the guardians of the past four Legendary Trainers." Lt. Surge told me as he called them out of their Poke balls. Pidgeotto came out when it heard the word guardian. The four past guardians came out. The Pokémon that stood in front of me were monsters of power. "Growlithe, Gyarados, Arbok, and Aggron?" I said in disbelief. "Not all of these guardians came from Kanto, and neither have all of the Legendary Trainers." Lt. Surge explained. Suddenly, I was in big trouble.

"William! How could you just leave us in the Pokémon Center when you were going to challenge the Gym Leader?" Leaf yelled at me. "He didn't come in to challenge me. He came to get some answers as to his powers and his history." Lt. Surge told Leaf. Lt. Surge explained to Leaf and Ellie how he was in the Kanto Wars with the last Legendary Trainer and why he was telling me about my history by giving me the guardians of the last four Legendary Trainers. "So, you get to keep these?" Ellie asked. "Yes, but I personally can't carry them so that they are always with me. Ellie, would you like to hold on to the guardians for me?" I asked. Again, that weird feeling came back when she got that twinkle in her eyes when I showed that I trusted her. She agreed and I gave her the Poke balls after withdrawing the guardians.
