We got to Celadon just as the sun was going down. We all decided it would be best to wait until tomorrow to challenge the gym. That night, I spent some time trying to figure out what that voice was talking about. I also thought about the gym battle, but each time I tried, the voice's words would come back to my mind. "Having trouble sleeping?" Lugia asked telepathically. "You could say that." I responded as a smile came to my face. "Lugia, how many Pokémon species are in Kanto?" I asked. "One hundred and fifty. You know this from being in the Professor's lab for so many years. Why do you ask?" Lugia responded. "A voice spoke to me today and I don't recognize its signature like I would if it was just any other psychic type Pokémon. I can't wrap my head around this." I said.
"You need to get some rest so that you'll be ready for your gym battle tomorrow. You are too focused on your responsibilities as the Legendary Trainer. You do deserve to live like a normal trainer when there isn't a problem dealing with a Legendary Pokémon. Also, you have a few things about your personal life you need to think over." Lugia said. It had some sarcasm in its voice when it said the last sentence. "You need to stop with that. You've been talking to Leaf too much." I said out loud. I got quiet when I saw that some of the other Pokémon were looking at me funny. "I only say what I've noticed. You really should get some rest so that you know what to say to those two." Lugia said. "I don't know why I have to say anything. Why can't I just be a friend with both of them? Why do I have to choose one over the other that I like?" I asked. Pidgeotto noticed I was troubled by something. "What's wrong, William?"
"Nothing. Lugia was just making a joke and I over reacted to it." I said trying to avoid talking to him about this. "William, I'm your guardian. We're connected by spirit and I can tell when you're lying. Tell me what's wrong." Pidgeotto said. I knew I didn't have a choice so I explained everything I was thinking to Pidgeotto. "You need to be honest with the girls about how you feel. They will understand if you're honest." Pidgeotto tried to reassure me. "You know that's about as helpful as when my mom tries to reassure me of something." I said sarcastically. The next day, Leaf, Ellie and I set out for my Gym Battle. Leaf and I agreed that I would go for the badge first so that I wasn't waiting on her since she'd have a harder time than I would. I finished with all of the Gym Trainers easily and went to speak to Erica. Her Pokémon were strong, but Charmeleon was doing great. After defeating her second Pokémon, Charmeleon evolved into Charizard. Erica sent out her Vileplume and Charizard took it out in one move. After I received the badge, I wasn't feeling so good and went to the Pokémon Center. Ellie had checked with Leaf if it was okay for her to check on me. When she came, I was laying in bed and looking green. Pidgeotto was watching over me."You okay, William?" Ellie asked. "I think some of Vileplume's spores got into my system. I just feel terrible." I said. Ellie sat on the side of the bed while holding my hand. She had that same smile on her face and sparkle in her eyes that I couldn't resist. "Ellie, no." I said. She looked at me wondering what she had done. "Did you come here to check on me solely or was there another motive to it?" I asked. She looked down. "I did want to do more than check on you. I know we said that we'd wait until we were older to talk about this, but I can't hold it in anymore. William, you're the knight in shining armor I've wanted my entire life. I want to be with you and for you to be interested in me." Ellie said. She starts to develop tears in her eyes. "Ellie, I care for you. There's no doubt in my mind about that. But, I'm not sure if I care for you in that way right now. As I've said before, I'm still new to making decisions about how my personal life will go. You just have to bear with me. Okay?" She kisses me as a tear runs down her face. We kiss for a little while.
Pidgeotto starts freaking out after a few minutes. I try to get him to knock it off, but I finally have to say, "What in the world is your problem?" After asking that aloud, I notice Leaf standing in the doorway. "How long has she been there?" I ask telepathically. "Far too long." Pidgeotto says. I realize what I've done and Leaf starts running. I go after her. When I finally catch up to her, I stop her from running. I turn her around to face me and she is crying worse than I've ever seen her. "What happened to staying how we used to be?" Leaf asked while crying hysterically. She starts punching me. I just let her get it out. When she stops, I tell her "Leaf, I'm sorry. I let things go farther than they should have. You're right, I went back on the agreement we made and you have more than a right to be mad at me for that. But Leaf, you need to be honest with me right here and now. Tell me why you're so upset about all of this." She just looks at me.
"Are you really that blind?" She asks as she wipes away a tear. "I've had a crush on you ever since we were little in Pallet Town. I never knew how to show it, so I would act like a tough girl so you couldn't see my sensitive side." She says as she cries into my shoulder. "What have I gotten myself into?" I think to myself. "Leaf, why didn't you just tell me that instead of acting out in that fashion without explaining why?" "I couldn't find the right time to bring it up. But what do you care? You want to be with Ellie." Leaf says. "How many times do I have to tell you two, I do not know how I feel about either of you. I have never been able to think about what I want to do in my personal life until now because for the last seven years, I was being put through countless tests and trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do with these powers." I say. We talk for a little while longer before Pidgeotto starts searching for me. We went back and I had to lay down the law.
"Okay, we are not having another incident like this happen again. I'm going to say this now to get both of you off of my back about this, I had a vision that involved all of us in a few years from now when Leaf said I needed to make a choice and I was actually able to do so. I do not know how I feel about both of you and honestly, I don't have the availability to think about it with this whole thing about Team Rocket trying to takeover and that ultimate weapon they have. In a few years, I will give you an answer, but until then, I do not want to hear anything else about this again. Understand?" I say angrily. They both agree and I walk out to clear my head. Pidgeotto flies on to my shoulder. "Well, that went well." Pidgeotto said. "Shut up. I really don't want to hear it." I say still annoyed. "Why'd you say you don't know how you feel about them when you know you like Ellie?" Pidgeotto asked. I hang my head down. "I don't know what I'm supposed to say. Ellie has this way of stirring my insides when she gives me that look and smiles at me like that. But, I don't want to hurt Leaf's feelings by saying that I like Ellie and not her. And after what Ellie said, I couldn't help but keep kissing her." I say.
"Lookslike you're caught between a Golem and a hard place." A familiar voice said. Iturn around and see Red. "Am I glad to see you." I say. I greet him and explainwhat's going on. "What am I supposed to do?" I ask. "Well, try to keep thingsunder control like you just made them with that rule and everything. Also, youshould let Ellie know how you feel so that she doesn't feel led on like that."Red says. "Was I wrong to let Ellie kiss me for that long after she said all ofthat about me being her hero?" I ask. "No. I can understand why you let her dothat. You were glad to have someone appreciate you for all that you've doneafter keeping your identity separated like that. Plus, you had feelings for herlong before that, so you just couldn't help it." Red explained.
