The next morning, Ellie, Clefairy and I began to travel through Mt. Moon to Cerulean City. Along the way through Mt. Moon, Charmander, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Pidgey evolved into Charmeleon, Ivysaur, Wartortle, and Pidgeotto. When we were just about to leave Mt. Moon, Ellie and I ran into a scientist who wanted the two fossils for him self. After a battle that I won, he agreed to let me choose one of them to keep. I chose the Dome Fossil and we finally got out of the cave. When we got to Cerulean, I was challenged by Leaf. Leaf was one of the kids from Pallet Town who left just before I did. She seemed determined to beat me because she had a problem with how Professor Oak took so much interest in me over the years.

"Look Leaf, we don't have to do this." I said. Leaf wasn't going to let me back down, even if I didn't have any Pokémon healthy enough to fight. "We're settling who the better trainer from Pallet Town is. And it's going to be me!" Leaf said. I thought about taking a dive just to get Leaf to leave me alone, but if I did that, I'd still have Entei and I can't reveal my secret identity yet. "Alright Leaf, I accept your challenge, but we can only fight using our starters." I said. I knew that I could win if I said that Charmeleon was my starter since I knew for a fact that Leaf chose Bulbasaur as her starter. "Fine then. But, you have to fight with all three of yours." Leaf said. How did she know that I received all three Starter Pokémon from Professor Oak? "Deal." I said. She threw out her starter. I was amazed to find that she had such a strong Ivysaur. I could tell that it was close to evolving too.

"Leaf, this is an unfair match up. Your Ivysaur is about to evolve at any moment and my starters just evolved into their first stages." I said. "Too bad. I guess that just shows how much better I am than you." Leaf said ignorantly. "What is this girl's problem?" Ellie asked. I sent out Charmeleon for a type advantage. "I'll explain later, Ellie." I said. I had Charmeleon use Flamethrower and Ember enough times to get a burn on Ivysaur. Luckily, Charmeleon was fast enough to avoid the powders that Ivysaur was throwing at it. We had worked on this quite a bit in training. One more Flamethrower should finish this. But I didn't expect Ivysaur to evolve mid battle like it did. Leaf had a glint in her eye like she had the upper hand that I couldn't see. "Venusaur, Mega-Evolve!" Leaf said as she tapped the keystone on her Mega-Ring. I stood there in shock that she had a Mega-ring and the Venusaurite to do this.

"What's happening to that Venusaur?" Ellie asked. "It's going through Mega-Evolution, a process that gives a fully evolved Pokémon the ability to gain more strength, but only during battle. It's only known to happen in the Kalos region, but there are reports of Mega-Stones being found in the Hoenn region now." I explained to Ellie. "Leaf, where did you get those items?" I asked. I noticed a symbol that I had seen online about a team like Team Rocket in Kalos. "My cousin from Kalos sent it to me. He said that he received it from a man who was very famous in Kalos from developing different tools that trainers use there." Leaf said while bragging. "Charmeleon, stand down. You too, Venusaur." I said as I walked toward Leaf. "You can't tell my Venusaur what to do!" Leaf said angrily. "Venusaur knows that I'm trying to keep you safe in what I'm about to do." I say as I reach for her Mega-Ring.

"What are you doing?" Leaf asked as I pulled the Mega-Ring off of her wrist. I took it apart and removed the orange disk that was inside it with the symbol. I put the ring back together and had Charmeleon use Flamethrower on the disk. "What was that about?" Ellie and Leaf asked me. "That disk was put in by Team Flare of the Kalos region. They were using you for data. I think their intention was to see if you would fight the Legendary Trainer so that they could understand how to beat him." I explained. "How could I have been so stupid?" Leaf asked. "Don't beat yourself up about this. You couldn't have known that they planted that in there. I only realized what was going on because of all the research I've done in Professor Oak's lab for so many years." I said.
